offhand, i have to say that Reckless' selection of electronic/dance/"IDM" music sucks ass, at least in terms of vinyl. it seems like they get 2 new releases in every month, and only stuff that is either domestic or distributed by Thrill Jockey. Gramaphone records, on Clark st. just south of Diversey (i dunno the exact address) has a much better selection. Also Hard Boiled ... i don't have the address for it either, but this exact question was asked/answered last month, and i did post the address then. so, archive it up, baybeeee josh -- String Theory : Digital Music for Humans http://www.enteract.com/~yoshi/index.cgi On Wed, 16 Aug 2000, Twine sound wrote:

Yea... They just got a new guy to do the "dance" (aka anything electronic) ordering and he claims that he will be getting their selection much better. I believe he's even subbed to this list.

Yea, I was the one who posted this question when I moved here like two weeks ago... Everybody told me Evil Clown, Reckless and Grammaphone were the best. Quaker Goes Deaf used to be great but now they unfortunately closed. I'd say your best bet would be just to walk around the Grammaphone/Reckless area (Clark St. in Lincoln Park) because there are a ton of shops around there (the pawn shops are pretty cool as well). As far as clubs go... There aren't really any good clubs in my opinion... There are just a lot of clubs and they all occasionally get somebody good, so you have to just kind of watch the Reader or something and look for the good ones. -- :: atomly :: atomly@atomly.com | atomly@atdot.org | atomly@cyrus.net http://www.atomly.com | http://www.mp3.com/atomly --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Play at Danny's on Damen and Dickens (every Moday night), is my current fav of club hangs. Pretty Chill, not much attitude, and resident DJ's Bob and Ray spin all your IDM fav's and some you haven't heard. They always have a guest DJ or sometimes a live PA. And they've brought in the likes of Casino Vs. Japan, CNS Engineering, many others.... Also Keep an eye out for Mike Javor's /bin series. He's been brining in a lot of good quality people, and does a decent job of putting on the shows. To name many of the acts he's brought in: Funkstroung, Richard Devine, Phonecia, Kit Clayton, Kid606, VVM, Adult just to name a few. His next show, I believe he has Oval coming out! He's also started up another Series, called 13-v... He kicked it off by brining Terre Talemitz (sp?)... And more is to come. also In october, Kid606, and Console will be coming to the empty bottle. And there is word that The rachel/Matmos tour will come through Chicago. So It's actually getting to be a very exciting time in Chicago or IDM... Just keep your eye's and ears peeled. And support the local scene as much as possible.
