$6000 is quite enough for building a nice set-up. i would start with a good sampler (personally i recommend yamaha a3000) with a zip/jaz drive. get a powerful computer with good soundcard, i use PC with external card and i don't complain. and put Cubase or Logic (which i prefer) in it. also you need keyboard for playing with sampler. plus mixing desk, go for quality one, MACKIE or SPIRIT . and effects box, Lexicon, Alesis , Yamaha or Ensoniq are fine. and buy a good nearfiled monitors . i'd go for SPIRIT, TANNOY or EVENT powered monitors. as much as i know it is better when it is powered. if you'll have some money left, buy some good synth. something like Nord Lead. this is my opinion only, i guess you'll get different recomendations from other people. Other than that.. I'd have to know more about what you want. Interesting!!!! What's the best programmes to use as a multitracker for the mac. I use an MD8 currently, but have just upgraded to a G3 PowerBook. I also got Logic Platinum, but can only seem to get up to 5 minutes audio stream at one time. So, what is the best way to get a a computer based recording set-up? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

He does use Macs, but he also uses PCs so he can run CDP (http://www2.bath.ac.uk/~masjpf/CDP/titlepg.htm) and I'm sure he's messed around with other OS's like Linux since he seems to be real computer savvy. last i heard RDJ uses 3 macs and a ton of other shit homemade and not homemade..pro tools, 3 korg ms-20s and who knows what else...."you've got so many machines richard".... but as far as i'm concerned the simpler the better...maybe that's cuz i can't afford a serge modular and a room full of keyboards but you can more than get by with a good sampler and a good synth and sequencer... some FX too. ----------

Logic has a setting whereby you can specify the default recording time. The default is five minutes. You can set it for 10 hours if you have enough HD space. Logic pre-allocates contiguous HD space for recording. Read the manual.....
