I have heard talk recently that "any moment now" Warp US is going to be setting up an office in New York and has signed a big fat distribution deal with Caroline. This prompts three questions: 1. Will all Warp releases now be significantly cheaper for those stateside? 2. How much of their catalog will be released in the U.S.? 3. Will this turn out as poorly as the deal with Nothing? bob davis.

this prompts one question. how much cheaper exactly do you want them? i bought the _trainer_ 2cd in a store for $19.99. this is probably cheaper than you would get them in a store in england. the last two us released double cds i bought cost around $23 each. i routinely see british warp single cds for about $17 - $18, whereas non-sale us cds cost around $16. so if they were released in the states, then you'd probably save about one or two dollars. not exactly what i would call significantly cheaper. -martin --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I tend to agree with Martin here. I picked up Trainer for $19.99 and Mira Calix "One on One" for $12.99. I really don't think we're getting aped in the US over warp releases. all i can say about u.s. record prices is - they are cheaper than anywhere else, especially when you consider the exchange rates of countries. you can go to virgin mexastore on oxford street in london, and pay £12.99 for a CD, sure, but then multiply it by the exchange rate of $1.50+-a few cents & the cost of your airfare, see what I'm sayin...this comes from years of ravaging l.a. and san fran cut out bins, obscure towns in the middle of nowhere for obtuse American soul, soundtracks, lounge music pre-idm. UNLESS of course, you are looking for rare one off unusual jazz records, have an English, German or Japanese accent - then you'll probably be charged 3 times the price cause most American record "dealers" have got wise to record dealers... even more off topic!! ps - clothes are cheaper in the states, 2.
