I know I'm a bit behind on this being release, but oh well.... Was skeptical on picking up the second Soul Center CD as I wasn't crazy about the first one or the 12"s (although I did like "Groovin'") but I decided to try the second one anyway and it is phenomenal. Much more developed than the first, a lot more soul. Doesn't sound like funk loops trying to be minimal, rather it sounds like minimalism and funk/soul happily co-existing. Totally recommended. I think maybe my favorite Brinkmann CD, but I should give myself a few more days with it (could it be better than "Studio 1 Variationen"....) Anyway, totally recommended. Also heavily recommended are I-F's "Mixed Up in the Hague, Volume 1" and Gas' "Pop", both of which I recently acquired. Stellar. Wow, people making good music again....will there be a "Mixed Up in the Hague, Volume 2"? I'd love to see one dealing with lots of the Dutch electro 12" tracks I haven't heard (which is just about all of them - me and my fear of electro 12"s.) The Gas disc is the best from him yet, and I'm very impressed Wolfgang was able to top the phenomenal "Zauberberg". Good show! Lush, gorgeous enviornmental sounds and delicate keys and strings get hidden in the gascloud this time and it's just so lovingly programmed, you have to like this record. On the downside, I wasn't so thrilled about Markus Nikolai's "Back", either of the new Takemura fragrence CD's or Arovane's "Tides", but I have been wrong before, so I'm open to hearing what others thought about them.
