i was listening to the thin blue line soundtrack (excellent film, would-be excellent soundtrack if they removed the film dialogue). anyway.. it occured to me that it's sort of IDM in the ambient vein.. okay, perhaps not, but not far off.. and i'm sure a lot of IDM listeners like Glass... so.. any Glass suggestions? i am looking for something in the very subdued vein.. a la Thin Blue Line sdtk and the Piano Solo (which seems to mostly be the Thin Blue Line sndtk on a piano). any suggestions appreciated.. I need more of this stuff. / wells // www.submute.net --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

wells- I suggest picking up Glassworks. You can find it almost anywhere, and it's one of those 'Nice Price' discs--should be nine bucks. First heard this music at a modern dance performance in SF and have been a Glass fan ever since. Also, you could check out "Heroes" symphony or "Low" symphony. Composed by Glass from music of Bowie and Eno. I think that there's a release out that has both pieces on it. Honestly, I'm not sure what the soundtrack sounds like, but the Glassworks is a great listen anyway. Take a look at www.philipglass.com. There's a discography, and some songs from each album in mp3 format. Cheers, -Jerry btw, have you seen Morris's new film, Mr. Death? np - Stillupsteypa 'Interferences are ... '

btw - isn't there a version (Japanese?) of this that has Both the above plus an interpretation by AFX? If not, sorry... but I thought I saw something like this once. I don't quite remember what the Thin Blue Line sndtk sounds like for reference (sorry)... but as far as Glass stuff goes, I would highly recommend checking out a film called Powaqqatsi. The photography in this piece is outstanding and will stick in your mind with amazing clarity and brilliance. There is no dialogue... just images and scenes with Philip Glass orchestrating throughout. Quite riveting. -matT

even better, check out 'Koyaanisqatsi', in my opinion, a better film/visual documentary and a better soundtrack...NEVER see it on video, ONLY at the cinema! (it's like seeing 2001 on video) also check out a track called 'Facades', i don't know what record it's from but it's on 'The Best Of' (which, incidently, i reccomend you DON'T buy...there's only a few good tracks, the rest is a bit too pretentious for my likings)....anyway, this is, in my opinion the best track by Glass, very haunting...
