i'm surprised no one brought this show up (last Th. @ the frying pan in NYC). anyway, here's a little writeup, since I'm experiencing a lull at work and feel like describing it. got there at 10, having missed push button objects. why say it starts at 10 and then have performers from 9 - 10? whatever. we actally caught the last 10 minutes or so and it sounded really fresh, crunchy hip hop beats and stuff. at 10 anti-pop consortium went on. I wasn't too impressed. the set seemed like a long soundcheck. one of the guys basically toasted over the other's raps while swilling what looked like a becks. (for all you beer spotters). at any rate, 11 rolled around and schematic's DJ spun a blazing 15 minute electro set while Richie Devine soundchecked. I think he was DJ solo? Devine played an outstanding set. hunched over a laptop like a demon, with these stuttering beats and ambience, it was nice. it sounded like ischemic folks era deine as opposed to lily of the valley stuff. went to see alec empire for the last 15 minutes of r. devine's set. noisy fun. he has a real stage presence. finally, there was phoenicia. this was the highlight for me. funny how the throng of beautiful people who gathered to see Prince Paul and the Automator cleared into a group of gangly bespectacled IDMers when phoenicia went on (myself included). but it was a great set. what the hell was the guy on our left punching buttons on? it looked like two big oscilloscopes. We wound up leaving about half way through hrvatski's set, he accidentally cross faded into dead silence and the crowd erupted into a disco whistle. all in all a really beautiful night. I would have posted this earlier but I had to work two fifteen hour days mon. and tue. so there you have it. gabe. gweinstock@hws.edu --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

yeah that was lame, I missed him/them... we actally caught the

APC is one of those acts that sometimes blows your mind and sometimes disappoint...

He goes by the name DJ Aura, really really good DJ, since he lives in NYC I have heard him many times and he has perfected the art of spinning crunchy IDM Warp/Schematic type stuff...

yeah Devine's set was really abrasive and wicked. I would say the material played is a preview of what to expect on his album perhaps. His style is: sick sick rythm programming for like 10 mins, then about 5 mins of DSP abuse/feedback to get the crowd edgy, and then just when they are like 'what the fuck' he drops backs in with the tweaked beats. He actually played his track off Lilley minus the ending arpeggios stuff...

yeah plus the fact thar ship/dungeon is a killer space! Seriously felt like I was in a horror movie...perfect setting for Mr. Empire.

their set was indeed nice, though I felt it wasn't as tight as when I saw them last year as the Cooler. Anyhoo pounding electro with waves of feedback/delay, lots of 808 type drums. I was surpised they didn't play more stuff outside the electro tempo. what the

It was a sampler. We wound up leaving about half way through hrvatski's set,

yeah it was a great night, perfect cool weather. The space was very cool, hard to describe, part outside, part inside an old defunct ship... ciao Nate --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yeah, I spoke to him after the set, one of the turntables was messed up. Kept cutting out on him. That why he ended up finishing off with a record with about 10min of log's being dropped into water... Was interesting set he did... HE also played a remix of his that I hadn't heard yet...
