In the interest of fairness, I have to weigh in with some positive comments about Iara Lee. While I think Caipirinha itself has a mixed track record, and I probably fault it the most for launching itself on the reputations of established artists rather than growing its own (although they're gradually reversing this trend, to their credit), in my dealings and conversations with Iara, she's always been professional, friendly, supportive, and appreciative. If others have experiences to the contrary, I can't speak to those; my experiences, however, have always been positive. As for the sources of her funding, who am I to slag her? She puts the money to good use, gives artists an opportunity to record and release, and fortunately for them, she's got enough funding for the label to be able to promote them. A rarity in a "small-cap" scene like this. Phil

I second this. Caipirinha has been able to take risks that other lables simply can't do. Also, it's great to see someone who has the ablilty to translate creative ideas across numerous media (film, music, clothing, etc.). Whatever anyone thinks of the library of music, the bottom line is that lables that take risks are worth supporting. It's not very often that you see a lable that's willing to take chances like that. As far as where the money comes from, it no one's business but the label owner's. If you don't like it, go start your own.
