Yeah, that's a sweet deal indeed. The only thing that bugs me is that you can't count on their customer service. I've sent them about a dozen email messages about a defective CD that had been shipped to me through their CDuctive buyout... None of which were ever answered. Not even an acknowledgment or redirection. Crap. Of course, the deal being with downloadable MP3s and all, you might not need their CS people at all, but let's say you're incorrectly billed...? It's just not worth it to me. sqrrt. ----- Original Message ----- From: h0l - <h0l211@hotmail.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Tuesday, July 25, 2000 4:29 PM Subject: [idm] WHOA, emusic.com subscription service! wow, i really can't believe this, since i thought it would take a lot longer to get deals like this sorted out, but: http://www.sonicnet.com/news/story.jhtml?genreNameForDisplay=Jazz&genreDirectoryName=jazz&id=1122406 ..has the story (emusic.com are offering a subscription mp3 download service for their entire catalogue!), and: http://www.emusic.com/subscription/index.html ..is the link. And for $9.99 a month for a year's subscription, and labels like Fax, Ninja Tune, Bomb HipHop, Kingsize, Holistic (!!), Law And Auder, Moving Shadow, Ninebar, Plug Research, Pharma, Pussyfoot, Recycle Or Die, Quannum, Reinforced, Schematic, Tummy Touch, Transmat, and Wordsound (that's just me going through their label list looking for cool stuff..), well.. it's 9.99 a month if you subscribe for a year, 14.99 if you subscribe for 3 months, and 19.99 on a monthly basis btw. well, i just subscribed for a year since i was so over-excited, and i can confirm you get unlimited downloads on their entire site. this is great because you'll actually be paying the artist (albeit a relatively small amount) for downloading their mp3s, you no longer need to worry about badly encoded, messed-up, pirate mp3s, and the range of mp3s (over 125,000) that are tricky/impossible to find out there on mp3 sites is amazing. The entire Recycle Or Die back-catalog? Fax up the wazoo? I'm drooling as we speak.. i think this deal is best for the electronica fan, cos clearly emusic are making deals with independent labels, in general, and there's lots of good smaller labels out there that have already signed up with them... and if enough people sign up, we'll be putting quite a bit of money back into those independent labels, too.. regards, h0l/simon (http://www.mono211.com) ps - since i haven't mentioned it of late, new material on http://www.mono211.com - monotonik eediots - includes great new Sense mp3, new nu-skool breaks mix by Hoffman, and new Vim! mp3 EP :) ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

not totally suprising as emusic is consistently losing money, this could provide some quick cash and settle the investors down, a bit.. do they still offer a song at $0.99 or is it all by subscription only? mp3.com posted a smaller loss than last year and seems to be doing much better than emusic as far as the analysts are concerned - so it ought to be interesting - time warner and bmg have also settled with mp3.com.. cheers, :a --- h0l - <h0l211@hotmail.com> wrote:
