Mentions of the Legendary Pink Dots keep popping up here and there on this list. My wigged-out friends and I used to listen to the pink dots quite a bit during the era of the "asylum" album circa late eighties. You cannot beat that record for sheer hallucino-gothic eerieness. Really, really trippy. This is the soundtrack to teatime/the apocalypse on 25 tabs of lsd-25. Good lyrics. So, what've they been up to since? Can anyone tell the tale of the pink dots? - fred http://nofuncharlie.com/kumquat "fred astaire sings along, as he skips down the stairs of the pentagon...gone, it's all gone..." --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'm a bit murky on this, but believe that one of them's formed the Twilight Circus Dub Sound System. Mr Weibrecht, confirm?? the pink dots have many albums out since "asylum" Their style changes through the years, but keeps a pink dots flavour. They are also part memebers of Tear Garden, which should be coming out with something new this year. The bass player is the one that started Twilight Circus. The keyboard player has a couple of solo projects out. so does the lead singer. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

legendary pink dots are currently on tour in north america. i saw them play at the double door in chicago a few weeks ago. they have just released "A Perfect Mystery" on soleilmoon (who is reissuing the majority of their backcatalogue, often with new artwork). Their sound has changed considerably over the years but is still undeniably Dots. "Nemesis Online" was their best album since "The Maria Dimension" in my opinion; "n.o." came out last year. the new one is comparable but lacks as many electronic gadgetry sounds. Edward Ka-Spel has been releasing an album a year or so, same as Dots, and his new one "red letters" is pretty good. Silver Man releases solo albums every few years, and Ryan Moore's Twilight Circus has released a handful of dub albums. the lineup of the Dots has stabilized as Ka-Spel, Silver Man, Moore, Martijn de Kleer and Niels Van Hoornblower for the last several albums, so the sound shifts less radically than it has in the past between albums. many find the Pink Dots to be aggravating or politely call them "an acquired taste.".... i think they're great, and despite the extent of their output, they never seem to really disappoint. their show here was incredibly loud though, almost too much for my tastes. matt ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I saw them play with Dead Voice on Air (van Hornblower played stuff for DVOA, which was neat) I thought it was a great show. Nemesis Online, IMO is a great album. Far different than their other stuff... But with many fascinating tracks. You either love em' or hate em' or just think they're weird as shit. Well... I guess no matter what you think they're weird as shit. Further to other posts, the Dots have an MP3.com site, with selections from each of the albums (from memory). Just search by "Legendary pink dots" on MP3.com and you'll be there pretty swiftly. I still love that tape loop interlude the Silverman did on one of their 80s releases, with all the snippets of Stockhausen recordings... wish I had a copy of it, but I can't even remember the album. One of the main dividing points, I think, for the Dots is Edward's vocals... he can't (or won't?) hold a note, and lisps, which is somewhat off-putting. Michael np. Would you like to step outside and sort this out like men? ;) I love Edwards vocals - Always have, ever since I first heard them on The Tear Garden stuff, which made me hunt down the LPD's. I just got Wild Planet, and love the Tear Garden track with Ed singing on it. He does have a distinct voice, and I suppose it could be annoying.....Not in my universe though. Erm - Coil's "Musick to Play in the Dark 2" is quite good I think. As is Arovane's "Tides", although sounds very BoC'ish. NME gave Kid 606's recent work 8/10. And they think Oasis is music??? Who knew. -i. PS - Ignore me completely, I think Eminem's album is the best release of the year, and think it may well take Radiohead to remove him from the top. Am I in the running for "worst music taste on the list yet? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

How is his new one anyway? I'm especially curious to hear what Mike Patton had to do with it, since I'm also a fan of his work. -- andrij. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
