i'm interested in these two bands/people/objects and was wondering if someone could recommend good first purchases. bentcrayon has the dopplereffekt "gesamtkunstwerk" release - any good? and i found a couple drexycia CD/LPs, namely the one on submerge, "the quest" (1997) and one on tresor, "neptune's lair" (1999). unfortunately i am still limited to CDs only, but would appreciate any and all recs/reviews. finally, i picked up reload - "a collection if short stories" last weekend, and it's quite good. somewhat oldschool idm (whatever that means) with a good mix of beats and beatlessness, melodies and ambience, harsh and gentle textures. that may sound like a wishy-washy assessment, but this album really does go all over the map. if you've been thinking about buying this, don't hesitate. btw, it doesn't really sound like the "on" remix at all. unfortunate maybe, but still good stuff. tkx!! nub --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

imo the best thing that drexciya has done that is available on CD is "The Journey Home" (1995 Warp, probably can pick this up at WarpMart). Emphasis is on the distorted 909s, which seemed to be in vogue back then... 4 tracks of wonderfully detroit-ish stuff. title track has a more electro feel, which i have rediscovered recently (now that Wireless has peaked my interest in this genre). Both "The Quest" and "Neptune's Lair" are more sprawling in scope with more tracks and less discretion, but they have good things to offer nonetheless. what's up with the water-thing with them anyway? ----------
