[some of you may be into this// sent it to another list i am on..] im very tired, so this is going to be short.. but its on my mind :) i really like it when scenes mesh into one another and allow for some interesting crossover.. it does a lot to bring out new music AND expose fans of one kind of music to another (most of the time). when i saw the THE LOCUST 2x12" at noise3 (costa mesa, ca).. well, i could not resist. THE LOCUST is a punk act from san diego (not to be confused with another locust i adore, which is a project by mark van hoen). on thenew 2x12" ("well i'll be a monkeys uncle"), the band is remixed by bastard noise (noise :), wizards of war (jungle.. ??), christoph de babalon (jungle/breakcore -- except not really here), kid606 (whatever the hell he is.. but this mix is INSANE breakcore that keeps the punkness very well AND moves into a nice perdy idm-ish piece) and more.. i think the high point on the THE LOCUST remix release is the kid606 track. in fact, i think it is one of the stronger things i have heard from kid606. pure insanity. [if your name is jj, you cannot pass this up] ... i also picked up the new bastard noise/outermost collaborative 7" ("cauldron of fire"). what can i say, it sounds like noise. its noisey. there is a general noisey feel. there is this really great noisey part. and there are a whole bunch more noisey parts. how the hell does ones review stuff like this? but hey, i love it! and for 3$, who can go wrong? honestly though, i just picked it up because john wiese is now working with bastard noise, and he has produced some of the best noise stuff i have heard (the catwoman 7" is EASILY a fave). more noise for boys. ... one of the bigger shocks of the day was a very jazzy group i saw perform at the anti-mall/lab/shop til you drop/hi we're not a mall, want to buy some makeup and clothes and maybe get a haircut or pick up some towels and hey we also can sell you some shoes place in costa mesa (california for our out of town friends). slippers. that is the name of the band. slippers. pretty groovy shit - and no real noise whatsoever :) i picked up one of their cds (the newest of 2) and it really sounds nice right now. perfect listen after the bastard noise and the locust chaos. ... i HATE the lab/antimall as a general venue. watching a very groovy/chill band perform and enjoying the evening as the weather cooled would have been PERFECT if i did not have to watch every SEVENTEEN magazine subscriber walk in and out of a clothing store carrying their little "brand name" bags and talking to daddy about a pony on the fucking cell phone. going to the lab makes me understand how most people see orange county -- and for a moment i almost wanted to go to LA. i think the area worked well for nightnoise -- but the gypsy den seems somewhat removed from all that (though i know im fooling myself).. and the djs were not situated directly in front of a macys for hipsters. ... was that short? i'm sorry. i think i will go to bed. then again, maybe i won't. chris.
