I -
not going to guess how Laurent does his mix, but having worked
with artists that have done essential mixes in the past - lots
of them do it on their own, and lots of them go in and use pro-
tools or something else to clean it up with.. Seven magazine
used to publish the playlist, and I thouoght the BBC site did as
well.
I used to work for a compilation label (I will not name them,
cause we're still friends) and every single one of the DJ mix
albums was cleaned up in the studio either by the DJ's themselves
or an engineer working with them...
I'm not even going to begin to tell you guys how Coldcut do their
mixes on Monday night for Solid Steel, cuz its a trade secret......
w:)
I'm listening to Laurent Garnier's rather fabooloos 2-hour mix
done for BBC 1 (Broadcast 30-01-2000, 2:00 AM Radio 1, BBC ) and
this got me musing rather naively :
Does he actually go in with a bunch of records and fumble in the
dark with 1200's, or is this pre-mixed via ProTools or (take your
pick) some other computerised audio programme?
Whatever - hats off, this is a great two hours worth spanning King
Britt, Ken Ishii, Der Dritte Raum, Model 500, Jeff Mills, Bernd
Friedmann and plenty of 'artist unknown' white labels (according to
BBC's URL).
Any guesses on what the track is 21 mins in??? Damn nice, but
even *with* the t/listing it's hard to tell what's what. The fact that
Laurent G's own most recent album has different tracks on the CD vs
vinyl version makes it even more tricky ... oh, us miserable
trainspotters.
