hello.
just picked up a 2x12" compilation on deadly systems called "praxis USA"
(named for the label "praxis" which puts out the artists on the comp
overseas).
the music is INCREDIBLE (fans of the label ambush take note, as the sounds
and artists crossover!). i always see this stuff as some of the most
"cutting edge" (yeah, lame term) material in electronic "dance" music.
imagine taking elements of ambient, hardcore, noise, idm, industrial,
jungle, techno.. then throwing it in a blender.
and don't expect anything too too close to atari teenage riot type stuff
(though i guess there is some points of comparison, and alec empire has
produced some incredible stuff like this on his own).
very much related to this [especially for folks in socal]:
went to a record release party for the Praxis USA release on friday night
at the smell (called Candlelight). The music was very good, and there
were a number of djs just dropping some straight up noisey insanity! The
best part of the night was Baseck -- who just chopped up everything and
moved nicely between noise, breakcore, downtempo, etc.. reminded me very
much of local DJ membraneous.
the folks who hosted Candlelight are doing another party on 7/28. if you
are even remotely curious about this stuff, you should check it out, as
christoph fringeli will be djing.
good fun!
Chris.
