It's one the best new releases I've heard all year... It will definately be in the top 5 come December, unless there's a huge glut of Accelera Deck releases in November or something. This week I've been listening to the Avrocar CD and "Action Battlefield" by the New Age Steppers almost exclusively. It sounds more like American Anlog Set on (more powerful) drugs than it sounds like Spacemen 3, if you ask me, but the reference is still accurate. I dunno, it's one of those records that I like so much I can't even begin to describe it :) I'd be *really* surprised if it was a big hit with IDMers, but I think it's an excellent record, and I'm going to check out more earworm stuff because of it. I'm a fan of the whole dronerock thing though, your milage may vary significantly. If you think it sucks, I'll still be your friend (as long as you agree that King Tubby invented dub.) By the way, I think "Action Battlefield" is among the next group of On-U Sound "Master Series" reissues, and you'd all be wise to pick it up. any serious escavation of the roots of IDM will uncover "Action Battlefield." Don't take my word for it, even Jack Dangers says so. :) .Bil. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I happened to find a copy of the Avrocar for $7 today, the day after I was going through anxiety over ordering it online for $15. Made my day - BTW somebody should tell schematic/suction/etc. that this one store gets most of their promos wholesale from somebody in the boston community.. but that would mean I wouldn't get crazy deals on new music now, wouldn't it?

It's reminds me of like Labraford/Kranky label releases. (I'm not familiar with this "spaceman 3" anyhow) I'm surprised the Thrill Jockey/Kranky kids aren't all over this, but then again, Indy rock is all about the street creds. (Obscure, but more "obscure-but-popular-with-my-friends")

I don't know.. it's pretty synth-y, and the "IDM" label has always been shady. But I agree with you. More typified IDM would be the Magnetophone "temporary lid" EP. I haven't listened to much other material by Magnetophone, but this is damn nice. I'm tempted (against my best interests) to order some import 7"ches from them and avrocar.. well, actually the Avrocar and Magnetophone early 7"'s are more idm and much better then their newer works... they are not bad but they don't surprise me anymore... I'm pretty sure those 45 are sold out completely... the same thing happened with Appliance... their pre-Mute efforts were much more inspiring. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Maybe I'm giving something away here, but you can pick up these early releases at www.normanrecords.com or www.gemm.com and search for seller "norman records". If you've never used GEMM before, it's very easy. Norman Records has prices on GEMM listed in US$, pounds on his web site, and has most things reasonably priced. I've ordered a few things, we'll see if he comes through. As a follow-up to the last email, my order from www.normanrecords.com went flawlessly. I bought many 7"ches (on earworm, liquification, etc.).. they were sent Tuesday from the UK and arrived by Saturday. In addition, their online catalog is up to date and _accurately_ reflects what is in stock. FYI.
