I've only been to one goa party before but as far as IDMers' lust for creative timbres goa's gott'em, the only part that gets annoying is when there's a really fast 909 kick for about 30 min before you hear something good. I really like the juno reactor "bible of dreams" and FSOL gets played alot at goa parties as well as coil. Yes there is A LOT of crap goa, but the good stuff has really made my ears swell and my mind flip. Anyway just wish I knew what the good stuff I heard that night was. Anyone here go to that party in Ashville Nc first semester? i like seeing goa up on this list, as many of its practitioners definitely use their technologies quite inteligently andmake people dance! (even if the whole pseudo spiritual western apropriation of eastern culter and mysticism thing is mad annoying)...but i wonder, WHY DOES SIMON POSFORD GET NO RESPECT? imo, he's a synthesist on par with the best idm makers (for those who don't know, posford's the man behind acts like shpongle, the twisted label stuff, hallucinogen and dementertainment stuff). he's been using techniques such as granular synthesis, formant filters and such for years now, and without any of the sometimes slightly offputting techno-fetishistiky indulgences found in many idm experiments with such technologies...the fact is that he just uses these techniques to make original, evocative melodies, even if they don't always aim to shake our conception of western muzak on its head...anyone know of any other musicians in other generes (house would be cool:) who stick firmly within their genre while expanding it greatly through the use of advanced synthesis techniques? -ethan. np: loop of joshua redman being tweaked through the steinberg grm plugins... -----Original Message----- From: SOMA806@aol.com [mailto:SOMA806@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, June 14, 2000 4:03 PM To: substar@iafrica.com; idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] patchwork (pysco trance) In a message dated 6/14/00 8:50:05 AM Eastern Daylight Time, substar@iafrica.com writes: << Patchwork released a really good album titled Odeon in '98 on Spirit Zone.
