i take mild offense to this, though maybe i'm reading the intent wrong. even though their sound is closer to mainstream than some, imho orbital has made some of the most "intelligent" electronic music out there, compositionally-speaking. god forbid somebody actually incorporate melodies and traditional song structures into their music. uhhh... yeah. so to rephrase what djslacker said, most people (like e.g. my dad) still think orbital sounds like clicks, noise and beeps. hell, my dad probably thinks britney spears sounds like noise, clicks and beeps. he's old. nub, orbital-defender np. some idm shit or somethin' - probably hrvatski --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

In my opinion, Orbital set the stage for intelligent house/dance music... original melodies mixed with insight and emotion... and genuine fun. Good to see that others feel similar. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nub" <knowles@Colorado.EDU> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Tuesday, June 13, 2000 9:27 PM Subject: [idm] youngsters on idm-l or whatever thread this came from...

Your dad - probably like most peoples' dads, no matter WHAT age, almost guaranteed thinks that Britney Spears is a sexy hot package. When I took my kids to watch the Spice Girls movie a year or so back, it was a revelation to see how many caring fathers there are who sacrifice their Saturday mornings to accompany teenage children to the cinema ... :-) I * --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
