the posts on idm the last few days have really amused me especially
in their intensity of emotion - if only the list were voice activated
and like steinskis old boplicity phone line we could call in our
messages and hear each others voice & then sample loop & play......
i've composed several replies, but dumped them, especially to lisa
lisa & now 5x i'm down with you - i've got knowledge, years & as
much music biz xperience as any1 on this list & so many posts have
been so far flung up its own that i have really had to laugh, but now
i must step into the arena.....
as part of a ninja training, they must know when to listen AND know when to
ask questions... and not be afraid to doubt or question the master.
the most exciting part of this list is when someone posts a question
regarding an artist and there's an immediate response, or even the
thread on
emotions in music - when there's a real discussion & lots of input...
when people talk about their new releases, whose on tour, their sig
files with interesting site links, & even the debate on mp3, rap in
idm, etc. cuz all that shit is really why we're here --- we like our
stuff a little different - a little out there - we are people who
take risks. we are a community with joint and diverse opinions and
thats what makes it alive.
excuse me that word intelligent

tomic
pls check -- see what amon tobin just said about when it was called
'intelligent' drum & bass in the uk. if you got this far, let's see
someone start a thread onnit....
about 15 year ago i was typing up other dj reviews for the Western
Association of Rock DJ's; most of the other writers were frustrated
musos & couldnt write an intelligent sentence (or song for that
matter) about WHAT THE MUSIC SOUNDED LIKE. (the exception was j.poet
who now writes for the us wire magazine). When I complained to the
editor, he said, ok, smartass, you write the reviews & i did for many
years & knew in my heart i was turning people on to the one thing i
loved - music - that's where it's at.
who gives a fuck what chantel looks like? or riz mazlen? or the
angel (who i signed to save the vinyl cuz she was a dope beat
manipulator, not a babe) or andrea parker who i used to say hi to at
sabresonic who has made a few records that have driven me to
emotional states of insanity, exstacy pain and desire all at once..
the music is what's important, so pls boys & girls, men & women - can
we get back to it?
w^:^
it reminds me of the pythagorean school but it makes sense. as i am only 17,
my awareness of IDM is quite high but because of my age, i have not yet
penetrated the core and simply do not know too many of the artists being
named anymore. once we get past clear, rephlex, warp, ninja tune, skam, all
those, i get lost. that's why i rarely post unless its opinion based. why?
because what i have to say is either: 1) already known and 2) quite possibly
wrong. i think under 18's should NOT be quiet if they have questions. the
only way to learn is by having them answered. no matter how boring or anal
this list gets, it's still one of the best resources for the type of music we
listen to. if there is a true 13-14 year old on the list, i would be truly
impressed. is that not a good enough start?

what if you're 17 and have been on for 4 years, or 21 and been on for 3
months? who has more right to say anything?
