Heiko Laux is a prolific german techno producer with over 40 releases and remix/collab credit to his name on a wide of labels including I-220, Kurbel, Missile, K2O, JH, Holzplatten, Tresor, Harthouse, PSI49NET, PBitch Control, Yoshitoshi, Apathism, as well as his own U- Turn and Kanzleramt imprints. I'm not positive as to the origin of his track on DE9 but i "think" it's from his Heiko Laux present The Old School Street album on I-220. But track on DE9 is representative of a majority of his releases although he has dabbled in electro in his collaborations with Anthony Rother. Yes Heiko Laux is definiltely one of the more underrated techno producers around, especially his works on 1220 and Kanzleramt. His Full Moon Tracks and Moonside Playground EPs w/ Max Ollson/ Sammy Dee are some of the best minimal techno released. And some of the finest full moon gazing music as the titles suggest. His latest mini LP Sense Fiction on Kanzleramt carries io that tradition after experimenting with the tweaky electro side of things lately. Anyone heard this yet? I second that--Sense Fiction is some of the best electro I've heard lately, alongside of Anthony Rother's Simulationszeitalter LP, which is less dancefloor-oriented but just as brilliant. There are 2 or 3 tracks in the 130-135bpm range, with the rest of the album much slower than that (90-105bpm electro--mmmm . . . ). Beautiful and haunting stuff--lots of old-school sounding elements and robot-ish vocoded german vocals give it a familiar feel while incorporating lots of new sounds. Also, for whoever asked, the Heiko Laux track from DE9 is from the Kanzleramt LP "Five", which would be an excellent introduction to the Kanzleramt sound for anyone interested. It covers a range of styles from electro to techhouse to mimimal techno with tracks by Heiko, Rother, DJ Slip, Samuel Sessions, Johannes Heil, Christian Morgenstern, etc. Highly recommended.
