Hullo IDM-ites, I was manually filtering my record shelves to find the Focus Sampler 12" when I stumbled upon a record I've been neglecting - I picked it up when I was visiting London some years back. The record is Aphelion Recordings's second EP with tracks A1) MiiA A2) The Ticket B1) Tastes Like A Peach B2) Brighton Terrace SW2 B3) Wireless; catalog code APH002, released in 1996. Written and digitally programmed by Zugzwang (coincidentally the name of the upcoming Aphelion LP/CD on (de)Focus, FOC355). The music itself is a bit dated, yet listenable (danceable even). I didn't listen to the record, just skipped the needle across it so no review, sorry. If anyone's interested I might review it later. But, since the record I have is APH002, what is/was APH001 and were there more releases? I did a quick search 'round the 'net but didn't find anything besides info on "Click" and "Zugzwang" on (de)Focus - not even a hint of Aphelion Recordings (but I found out that there's a reggae label called Aphelion Records :). Lance...? Everyone probably knows by now that the next Lackluster 12" on (de)Focus will be "R U Oho?", and that it contains a couple of remixes by Brothomstates. First of all, Brothomstates's website is at http://www.katastro.fi/brothomstates/ . Second, friends of mine are running an independent label called Rikos Records (rikos is crime in finnish); they have a compilation called "A Beginner's Guide To Rikos" (RIKOS001.CDR) (plus the tests of the first Dr. Robotnik 12" (RIKOS002) came out about a week ago). The compilation is absolutely fabulous, with tracks 1) Dr. Robotnik: Taking Over The World 2) Puola: Arpanet 3) Tero: Music 4) Roger That: Karaoke (Interview) 5) Lackluster: Buzz 6) Dr. Robotnik: Dilation Of Time 7) Ceniq: Gaylab 8) Tero: I Will Eat Your Brain 9) Brothomstates: Viimo 10) Lackluster: 11/11/99 11) Ylikulju: At2. The tracks range from electro to ambient, IDM to weirdness with even a couple of C=64 SID tracks (by Tero). The availability (when, where and how much) of Rikos releases will be announced later (as soon as they sort out the details with shops and/or distributors). But be alert, the releases will be limited. Also, watch out for rikosrecords.com in the near future. Now, I was supposed to see Brothomstates live April 21., but due to (supposed) "artistic differences" the gig was cancelled. That was the first time I heard the Brothomstates track from RIKOS001 and was immediately sold. It took a couple of months for me to get it, but now if you wanted my copy of "A Beginner's Guide...", you'd have to pry it from my dead hands. Sorry :). I guess I should review that one at some point, too...
