I recently received a CD-R containing four tracks by Parallel, a duo from
Boston consisting of Greg Davis (Autumn Records, he posts here
occassionally) and Don Mennerich. And I just wanted to let y'all know that
it's some of the nicest stuff I've heard in quite some time.
I don't want to pigeonhole them, since their work is really original, but
if you enjoy artists like Oval, Zammuto, Pita, and other laptop
productions, Parallel will probably turn your crank big time. It's nice
and glitchy, but with an organic touch (they drop lots of "real"
instrument sounds - like guitar and organ - into the mix). I'll be playing
tracks on my show over the next couple of weeks, so tune in if you'd like
to check them out (broadcast details at feedbackmonitor.com).
They're going on a mini-tour in mid-June (I'm presenting their show in
Toronto, but even if I wasn't, I'd still be raving about this disc) - if
they come near your town, go see them! Locations due to be hit include
Toronto, Cleveland, Chicago, Washington, Philadelphia and North Carolina.
