I'm just listening to Oval's 'Systemisch' right now and realised there're lot of similarities between it and Zammuto's 'Willscher'. Textures, rhythmic feels and rhythm sounds all have lots of common ground, I reckon. I think a prime example is 'Schoener Wissen'. (1) Please oh please no one interpret this as some kind of veiled criticism or dismissal of the Zammuto stuff. I think his album is really good and has its own strengths. Michael (1) At least, I think that's the track I'm up to. Damn clear vinyl! :-) It's so hard to spot where tracks end except by crouching low and looking across the record. -+- Involve Records http://involve.co.nz Jet Jaguar MP3s http://mp3.com/jetjag/ -+- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

zammuto is using guitar for the majority of his samplings so it gives his release a pleasing organic feel, IMO. andrew duke Michael Upton wrote:

Nick Zammuto only has the one apartment-B release and a triple (!) CDR to his name, which was distributed by him about a year ago. The lack of ripples in this mailing list by the apartment-B release is probably due to the fact that many have heard it before. I doubt you would find somebody willing to part with their zammuto 3xCDR. His music is fantastic. Visionary stuff, it has a lot of poise and class. He's a really decent guy, to boot. I'd shell out for the apartment-b release on vinyl.. I don't know if that's planned? Well all of Zammuto's stuff sends ripples down my spine. : ) There's no way I'm giving up by Zammuto cdr OR his Willscher cd for both are magical releases for those into warm glitchy experimental processed-guitar electronics somewhere in the neighborhood of Microstoria, Dont Dolby, Kohn, Tom Steinle, Cathars, Pluramon, etc. An absolute MUST have experimental release.

Actually Zammuto also has a previously unreleased remix of on of his tracks on the new Tom label For Friends compilation cd. I think this one was officially released last week and also features tracks by Novisad, Rafael Toral, Kohn, Alejandra & Underwood, Jon Sheffield, Harald Ziegler, and Frank Blumm. Also in the near future from Zammuto, watch for a host of compilations appearances on a variety of labels including miau miau, microwave, and autumn to name a few. -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I am amazed at how similar Microstoria and Cathars sound sometimes. They both contain those fluttering Cologne pseudo-melodies and really ambient, exceptionally space-defining moments of amazing beauty. I'm surprised I haven't seen more mention of Cathars' "Amorpheus" CD on this list, as it seems many members would be very into it. (similar to much of what you mentioned) I've never had too much of a stomach for microwave releases. Pita, for example, can be alternately illicit a profound reaction or just give me a headache. When I first got "seven tons for free" I routed it through a lowpass filter to even be able to listen to it without my head exploding a la "scanners". Zammuto has an obviously different take on music, which I believe helps give him his very fresh sound. He once told me something to the effect of, "I'm scared of anything with black and white keys" :) Andrew -- -| Andrew Schrock | aschrock@cs.brandeis.edu |- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I think the Cathars CD you refer to is great too, but, yeah, it doesn't get much mention on here. I found it more varied than Microstoria releases, and even recall several of the tracks having something approaching a beat, which is something I'd never expect from Microstoria stuff... Still, I'd say it's a damn valid point of comparison regardless. While this is undoubtedly in the archive, you can check out some MP3 clips from the label web site, www.miau-miau.com I presume this is released by the guy who used to sign as "Little Miss Trinitron" on here, and who organised that "roots of IDM" FTP site? I think the cathars cd got talked about a bit when it first came out, which was a while ago (actually about a year). I'm not normally a real fan of ambient, but I played this a number of times on the show. and the roots of IDM was great fun, although I don't have the whole collection. But you know what cd from around that time was _really_ good? _dated_ on toshoklabs. still listen to that every now and then. g. gweinstock@hws.edu On Thu, 1 Jun 2000, Michael Upton wrote:
