Yep, that's absolutely the reason! What a dope club! It ran at various venues between about 1986 and 1990. It was splendidly multi-racial, and pretty much introduced house to Sheffield. It began with a very dressed up crowd in the palatial neo-classical City Hall Ballroom, and became gradually more 'rave-like' (for want of a better term) as the acid house influence spread and it moved on to the smaller, grottier, but definitely 'avin it Occasions. But it always had its own sound, and was basically the home of Sheffield's dance scene. Warp, Designers Republic and the rest all went there. The club's DJ's were key too - Winston Hazell was of course in Forgemasters with Rob Gordon (and even now is tour DJ with Moloko), while Parrot was half of Sweet Exorcist with Richard H. Kirk and is now doing his All Seeing I thing. Damon.

Could this be the same guy who did the Warpnet mix 'round the time of WAP 100? It's interesting to see all this tie in. On other news, though, how does the new batch of Force Inc. stuff sound? Esp. the Sutekh - I really enjoyed most of Drop Beat's output, but the Sutekh left me a little dry. That and the damn Americans are releasing too much interesting stuff for my measly competing dollars ... I cant say enough good things about Sutekh's new Periods.Make.Sense album on Force Inc. An absolutely brillaint mix of deep experimental atmospheres and abstract minimal techno that brings to mind artists like SND, Dettinger, Vladislav Delay, Shuttle358, and Gramm/Farben. A "must" have. Other good Sutekh-related releases of late include (but none as essential as Periods.Make.Sense) are: . Sutekh: miasma 12" (Force Inc) . Force Lab comp 12" (Force Lab) . Stewart Walker: mobilization - stabiles remix 12" (Tektite) . Safety Scissors: Deadpan Escapement Reconstructed 2xlp/cd (Contect) -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

hello, the new sutekh CD/LP is called "Fell" and is released on Orthlorng Musork this week. I was lucky enough to stumble onto mp3s recently and at least on a first imprsesion it's an exceptionally good record. All of the experimentation suggested on "periods.make.sense" on Mille Plateaux is followed through here in full, with far less reliance on typical 4/floor structures. I haven't had a chance to listen to it very carefully, so I won't try to elaborate too much. I ordered a legitimate copy today and hope to give it many listens over once i can hear it CD-quality... so i might post a more thorough review at a later date. but even on a first impression, i highly recommend it, especially if you are into the more abstract side of these things...
