I'm no head, so I'm sure there's plenty of stuff that's passed right below
my radar. But the following are some amazing releases, sonically (I'm
always more drawn to sonics than lyrics - just admitting my bias):
Shadow Huntaz 12" (Plug Research) - MCs Breath & Non backed by Trash
Aesthetic (Crank/Low Res + Mannequin Lung). Wonderfully gritty, electronic
production underneath some Kool Keith-style vocals
Anti Pop Consortium LP - yeah, this is awesome - really innovative
production that ought to appeal to Company Flow fans. slightly better
produced, but the same ominous/dirty feel
Them, s/t (TRC) - this is a project from the members of the SF-based Anticon
collective (Jel, Dose, Sole, et al) - i just picked it up, so i can't spell
it all out, but the lyrical style resembles the Latyrx school of vocal
gymnastics, and the production is just out there, culling samples from weird
sources, electronic textures & timbres, and fat, resonant breaks. Amazing.
