Kinda deep question for the list: What other works of art, theater, literature, poetry, film, etc. do you think fit "the IDM style"? In other words, what creations in these other genres do you feel are the artistic equivalent of IDM in electronic music? For example: "Blade Runner" would be an obvious choice for an IDM-esque film. Maybe "Eraserhead" too? And in literature, Autechre seems to go well with Kafka's "Metamorphosis." The books of Camus & Sartre, as well. Any opinions or ideas? I don't want to sound grumpy, but I'm going to sound grumpy: please keep a discussion like this, interesting though it may be, of list. To quote a post from Lance 4 days ago, emphasis on "directly": "please dont post topics for debate on this list unless they are directly related to the music discussed on this list. we have far too much off topic banter on this list as is. controversial debates are the last thing this list needs. Any lengthy debates about issues not releated or remotely related to music might be enough to scare even the longtime list members off this list. if you're going to post, please post about electronic music - artists, labels, releases, genres, etc..." To keep this post on topic, I'd like to resurect a controversial, music related, thread. I'm enjoying the comeback of the guitar in IDM. The opening track on Niun Niggung uses one (and MoM have been playing live with one), Hrvatski uses one, Adrien75 uses one, a lot of the sounds on Solutiore of Stareau come from a guitar, and I think I hear live bass on the new Dr. Octopus CD. Have people (or Americans, maybe, since all but one of those examples are American) mellowed in their anti-guitar stances? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I wouldn't mind seeing IDM list become nothing more than a potent cocktail of tips like this one: I was pleasantly suprised last night when I discovered that Stud!oK7's DJ Kicks 12" LP release of Andrea Parker has got Gescom's "Puzl" from "Sounds of Machines our Parents Used", and its unmixed on the LP! Now if anybody can track down an easily accessible cameo appearance by Gescom's "Go Sumo" - we'll make you honorary IDM list King for a day. -phred PS: I didn't order up my Diskono comp. in time to pick up that more than rare BOC track from "twoism", now they are all gone : ( if anyone knows where there is one laying around, please let me know. --------------------------------- Danny Wyatt wrote:
