"Post art" wasn't a huge success with me, either. I do like the bonus track (tacked on the the end of track 4) but the others didn't really stick out in my mind. I have now acquired a good portion of the released Funkstorung (2 MaS releases, 2 compost releases, post-art and additional productions).. I think that will do me for a while. I love Funkstorung, and even though I'll defend them at times, their style does seem to be standing still while others are moving forward. (not that post-art is a NEW release, but you know what I'm saying, their releases seem to have a homogenous-ness about them) Andrew -| Andrew Schrock | aschrock@cs.brandeis.edu |- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

... which is only what makes the other musik aus strom records so much fun! & i don't mean those aemic chaps either. andre eastermann solo kicks his own ass there: the 'dex' 12" is just so fucking offbeat & the track on diskono 2 is quite a treat (but then, that entire compilation is just insane.) the swap 12" has its moments though it's not that amazing ~ though, the while ep! 'seek' on 33rpm just flies so totally, probably my favorite downtempo album ever ~ & i managed to scratch it! (sorry in advance to the downtempo purists.) freeform's 'glob' takes a bit to get used to, but if we had to accept the notion of a realm of mythically good music (argh, klunko flashback!!) then mr. pyke would be sitting up there. how's the other mas things? why aren't they being repressed? the locust lunch seems interesting. & i suppose i should investigate the fakesch cd thingie. man, comparing this guys to skam is just lazy journalism. ~ david --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I haven't heard "Marion" yet, but the Fakesch Demon EP's are quite solid. ("Marion" is about half Demon EP material) All MaS material is good to excellent quality. I'm a big fan of Aemic, Estermann, and Devine (although he's not MaS really). Even if you haven't heard of a particular MaS artist, you still can't go wrong. Everything except for the Demon EPs have been repressed and are available for reasonable prices (8-10$). I don't think you're looking hard enough? Pick them up soon, stuff goes out of print in a matter of weeks/months, and who knows when there will be demand to get it back in print. "Locust Lunch" (not to be confused with Locust) I just got the other day.. very noisy. I liked it quite a bit, not exactly sure what I would compare it to though without actively listening to it for comparisons.

Exactly. MaS are quite different from Skam in many ways. I can see comparing them to Skam at their onset, but after a few years they have taken whatever ideas instituted by Ae and made them their own... the obvious way to me is minimalism, especially Aemic, Swap and Estermann! Ae seem to have gone the opposite way that MaS has gone, making their music busier and busier (at least for a time, around chilchisuite/LP5). MaS artists definitely have a sound/feel to them which differentiates them from other contemporaries. [ The excessive amounts of activity in Ae's music at that time never really impressed me; I KNOW Ae (or even RDJ) can make a ridiculously complex Nord Modular sampled sequence at 270 BPM, but is it a successful song? It has a lot of "wow, you can tweak like a maniac" value, but to each their own, I suppose. ] Andrew -| Andrew Schrock | aschrock@cs.brandeis.edu |- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
