Well, sure, but that's the point, I think... Go see him live if you've got the chance - it makes a lot more sense coming out of 20-foot speaker stacks. Every shift in texture and dynamics assaults your whole body. I know what you mean, though, and the one thing he did do when I heard him last weekend was build the set up to more of an obvious climax. 'course, he was playing for 4,000 (or so) candy ravers....not his usual crowd. Still, he turned out the tightest mix I heard that night, by far.

I like Laux's "Presence" ep quite a bit. In somewhat the same style, check out Oliver Ho's "Sentience" ep. Question: anybody heard Ho's new LP? Opinions? Without a doubt, this album is meant to be loud. No little rinky dinlky discman, or 70 watt home stereo, or Cambridge 40 watt cpu speakers are going to do the trick. Richie came to DC 2 weekends ago for one of the biggest parties on the east coast this year (8000+) and played for 2.5 hours and completly mesmerized the DC crowd. Which is what surprised me the most when all they want to hear is the ol pussy trance of PVD and Oakeydork. 75,000 watts of Hawtin will make you a fan for life. The dude has skills that some cant even come close to. Give the album a few more listens. And the reason it seems so boring is because he is just a god damn tight as mixer!! Nuff said!
