On the OLD school tip... I've always really enjoyed the KLF's "Chill Out" disc: excellent mix of enviornmental ambient and straight up electronics. Great sleepytime, deep thoughts (but not cheesy) sort of thing. But I always was under the impression their other material was totally different, so I never got any. Am I missing out? KLF's Chill Out is an amazing piece of work. The only other KLF record that remotely compares to Chill Out is their Space LP. But that one has more of an Orb - Adventures in the Ultraworld-type sound to it. Reportedly the album was written with Alex Paterson so that would account for that sound as well... Actually, now that i think about it, there was another "ultra-limited" KLF ambient album that is making the rounds on cdr called Waiting For/The Rites Of Mu. Supposedly this album was only handed out to a handful of music journalists a few years ago at the Rites of Mu - Death of the KLF press trip. I dont remember all the details and i've only heard RA samples of the album but I remember it being good. -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yes indeed. The KLF were never known for being easy to pigeonhole, so much of their output verges from being supercatchy pop tunes(Justified and Ancient, What Time Is Love) to outright strange(just try the Pet Shop Boys 12" from 1990 w/the KLF Trancentral remix-like being trapped in a UFO during takeoff IMO). They even released their millennium single back in 1997, it was called "Fuck the Millennium" if I remember correctly. But I have to agree on the Chill Out platter, mostly feckin´brilliant and on my all time top 10. If you can get Space then get that as well, goes well with Chill Out. And while I´m at it, can any of the old-schoolers on this list please explain what Trancentral is/was. Was it some sort of club or just a name for their studio? Not really. If you cant stand cheese youll need to handle KLF records with gloves on :) Unless you track down Space almost nothing else of theirs sound like Chill Out. Those are records that came out when Jimmy was buddies with Alex Patterson, anything else is way different. ernie Ernesto Ikerd, (817) 763-4795 Company Graphics, Dept 17, MZ-1156 Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems Fort Worth, Texas --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Someone who liked Chill Out would probably also have a good chance of enjoying the original Pure Trance versions of "What Time Is Love?," "3 a.m. Eternal" and "Last Train To Trancentral". I'd also recommend hunting down "Waiting for the Rites of Mu" (which has the audio from the even-more-ambient full-length "Waiting" video) or "It's Grim Up North"... -- Lazlo Nibble - lazlo@studio-nibble.com - http://www.studio-nibble.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 24/7 music from the Nibble vaults! - http://www.studio-nibble.com/audio -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Chill out and the white room(and its singles) both should be quite easy to find today as scads of copies were produced. It may just require rifling through some used bins. As for their other stuff, Its quite a bit harder to come by and people are willing to pay ungodly sums for it. I ran an auction for a second copy of Space I had last year and the bidding went up to $100 bucks. Matt: The KLF's "Chill Out" full length is an ambient classic. Their other material has been electronic/crossover electronic, ie they've done some good stuff, but they've also had some mega hits on the radio: "What Time Is Love?" "Justifed And Ancient", etc. Check out the White Album they did, it ended up on major labels so would be easy to find. andrew duke AeOtaku@aol.com wrote:
