there seems to be a lot of this going around these days. white
(liberally) educated males complaining about being surrounded by other
white educated males.
my roomates is like this...after too many years of fucking semiotics at
Brown he now wants to "get active". (ie: write about activism) so he
writes articles about how everyone needs to be more political, and he
plays in a band that covers "born in the u.s.a.", but what does he do?
nothing. it's sorta funny to point fingers in this fashion. you
listening to really fucking esoteric (and fucking white, believe it or
not) music and complain that everyone else listening to it meets the
same criteria...this attitude is really no different than being an
asianphile, or any other fetishing of the "other", that mysterious
exotic "flavor" that will give you some fufillment of what you don't
have, which is a lack (sorta like a racial castration complex) of
somethng "real", blacks, homosexuals and women being more "real" in the
eyes of straight white males for some reason...
"lemme see yr credentials" (do you reside in burlington, berkeley, san
fransisco, austin, boulder? check! own any writings by foucault,
barthes, benjamin, or any other french men? check!)
yeh, i have heard girls refer to musicians as hot, get over it. they're
not so different from men in certain respects, weird huh?
i wrote this quickly, it might not be structured so hotly, but who
fucking cares, yeh, i'm straight (i think) white and male. but i have
enough self worth to not feel guilty about it, and not feel nervous that
i'm not on a mailing list with more "others"
plur (hahahahahhahaha)
