I know Im a bit late (since this thread has already come and gone) but I got the Lily of The Valley compilation earlier this week and after listening to it for 3 days straight I gotta say - I absolutely love it. Great stuff! Can anyone recommend anything in a similar vein? Also with the same purchase (emusic.com) I got Seofon - Immanence (which is so unbelievable I can't even categorize it) Seofon where have you gone???? Also Neotropic - 15 Levels of Magnification - Love this! I saw Neotropic DJ set @ Coachella last year and he played some interesting stuff. Nice to see/hear someone spin IDM (which we all know is fairly difficult to do and sound good) Shimone --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

well kids, hopefully I won't get yelled at for this one... But, I'm still an initiate as far as the IDM scene goes.. Mainly to me being broke all the time (no, not from drugs, because i pay for my own school and housing). I'm interested in stuff like Haujobb's side project "Architect", and stuff like that. Anyone have any suggestions? Has there been an influx of racist/misogynistic/haughty comments lately or is it just me? (not picking on this one post, it just made me go back an look at some of the recent posts). Is everyone on the list a straight white educated male?

dude. pointing out that someone referred to as a 'he' is in actuality is a she is not misogynistic. pointing out that a person is attractive is not misogynistic. are you a moron? i personally feel that all words referring to gender are riddled with sexist connotations. i'm stoopit. speaking of a little late, I just got Boards of Canada - Music has the Right... and I can't figure out what people liked about it so much. It's not that it's not my taste--epic amibience with beats and silly samples is right up my ally. I love side four, but the rest of the album sounds pretty mediocre to me. It's been compared to RDJ album and various Autechre, but what I like about all the albulms it's been compared to is their variation. the BoC all sounds very similar to me. Someone please explain what I'm missing. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

as a huge boards of canada fan, i'll speak up about it. most of the rdj comparison comes from the use of happy/friendly melodies, which holds true for some of it, and most of the autechre comparisons come from the use of... hmm.. actually i don't know where those comparisons come from. really i found that people who purchase boards of canada because they hear it sounds like either aphex or ae don't like it, because truly it's unique from them.. although it is on warp.. anywho, i did a huge analysis of boards of canada for a report last spring, and basically what it comes down to is the use of familiar and funky beats that change either not at all or very slowly, but serves to create a comfortable environment for the listener (or uncomfortable, in the case of their twoism stuff or sixtyten). the melodies, which are often somewhat distant sounding, seem almost nostalgic, especially with their "natural" or "analog" (not saying that analog is natural, mind you). it becomes very friendly stuff, even the less friendly tracks. i didn't like "music.." very much when i first heard it either (and i was mad that triangles and rhombuses was so short), but a month went by, i listened to it again, and i was like "wow, i think i like this". it was weird how it all seemed so familiar after that month :) a lot of their titles fall under the "odd emo" category. hit up their website (www.boardsofcanada.com) for really great pictures and such. the intro picture is for "triangles and rhombuses", which [personally] changed my point of view on that song (which i still love but think is still too short). -derek <lurk>
