It's called Etherea Records. It's on Ave. A between 4th and 5th and I can vouch for everyone at the shop; they know there shit. They may be a little non talkative if you walk in and ask for the new Moby record, but if you're hunting for IDM stuff they are more than willing to help out. You're probable talking about Etherea. It's on Avenue A between 5th and 6th. Everyone who works there is pretty nice. They're responsible for the Invisible Cities weekly which has really been a boon here. And Mondo Kim's on St. Marks shouldn't be overlooked. They have tons of great stuff, usually getting it before others. The manager there is extremely knowledgable and helpful. Other is also good, but usually the last place I look. They have no incentive to keep their prices low, since if you don't buy there someone else will. And because they do so much business it's hard for them to help everyone as well as other places, though they do try. However, I agree with you about asking for things: one time I waited like 45 minutes for them to find something I asked about, to no avail. They apparently had five in stock, but all they did was keeping through the bins I had just looked through. Oh well. I actually feel good when getting domestic (US) releases from Other Music. For CD's, the price would normally be up to $14 which is hard to beat. Probably the same is with vinyl. I don't buy mine there -- i am more into cheap old records for sampling. Also if you have some cd's to sell, take them to OM. I was very satisfied for what they paid me for stuff i could not look at anymore.. $3+ each.
