three members from the perlon label are doing live pa's tonight in toronto and i'd like to know if it'll be good. a guy trying to sell me on the show said their sound was somewhat like chain reaction / kompakt stuff. true or false? g. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

They are relatively obscure except among DJ's and those who aspire to be, but in such a crowd, I think they have great recognition. Ricardo Villalobos and Dimbiman are both quite strong, but check out the Superlongevity 2LP (would love to see this as a CD) for a great overview of the sound. I gotta agreew ith Matt on this one... Perlon, imo, is the best techno house label in recent months.. the music ranges from soulful jazzy techno hous (bushes on perlon10) to the sweeping minimalistic dubby techno (ala thereom) on perlon 08... overall the whole collection through the newest one is quite nice. other things to check out if you are into this type of techno house: the Kompakt label, Swayzak, the THX series on Minus..now on their third installment with a release by stewart walker vs. thereom... (im patiently waiting the mail order) for me personally...the music being released as "idm" has gotten pretty boring over the past few months..and ive changed my buying habits to include more techno house than in the past...maybe because ive found that certain influences within this "new strain" of techno house are allowing me to hear things i hadnt heard before...or had heard in "idm oriented" music. anyways.. go check it out...im very sad i missed the perlon show in chicago (due to finals..but at least i graduate now). -mike

funny, i've been doing the same thing, buying more and more of the dry minimal techno/tech house. it seems that idm stuff, with the exception of v. delay, gramm, others (whose works also include some of the aforementioned dry tech house sound, sistol, farben, etc.) i just think that as a whole techno/tech house has taken great strides in the last couple of years in becoming more, dare i say, idm like with their increasing use of non-typical rhythmical structures, sounds, etc. craig.
