NEW RELEASE 310 - THE DIRTY RoPE release date: Monday November 8th 1999 (please note new release date) format: CD (BAY 6CD) and limited edition 180g LP (BAY 6V) mail order price: CD: £10.00 (+p&p) / LP: £8.00 (+p&p) - available from us now at this price!! barcode: CD: UPC 0666017005621 / LP: UPC 0666017005614 Already featured in the new issue of The Face, Pan-American beat-scapers 310 release their debut album for The Leaf Label in November. THE DIRTY RoPE consolidates the reputation the duo have built with their NOD and Prague Rock EPs, released earlier this year. 310 are two old friends from New York: Joseph Dierker (currently resident in Seattle) and Tim Donovan (engineer at some of NYC¹s top studios who has worked with A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Erykah Badu and Method Man, among others). The duo work by relaying tapes of new work across the continent, each building on the other¹s previous work. The results cover a broad range of music, ranging from twisted hiphop jams (ŒFrosty Bardum¹, ŒShaving The Tiger¹) and unbridled musical epics (ŒNOD¹) to more abstract, atmospheric sound structures (ŒUnder The Blue Words¹), adding the duo¹s trademark found sounds to build a hypnotic 50-minute whole. The album works very much as a piece, with the tracks sequenced to create a road map for long nights and charmed afternoons. 310 have previously released two albums on their own label in the US, entitled AUG 56 and SNORKELHoUSE. These are now available through Leaf¹s mailorder service. 310¹s first single for Leaf, the Prague Rock EP, was a tribute/parody using only samples sourced from the work of Œ70s prog-rock behemoths. The CD version of THE DIRTY RoPE includes two bonus cuts: ŒMe Head Is Light¹, plus a Œhidden¹ track, ssshhhh... There is also an extremely limited Œsampler¹ 12² available (PRAGUE 2) by mail order from us, featuring Œradio¹ versions of ŒFrosty Bardum¹ and ŒFiring Line¹, a new vocal version of ŒPacific Gravity¹ and ŒRed Horizon¹ (taken from SNORKELHoUSE) ("musical perambulation of the most far reaching kind" - DJ, 4/5). Two tracks from The Dirty Rope (ŒNOD¹ and ŒJet Pack Time¹) were included on the recent Osmosis sampler on Leaf. In case you¹re bothered, 310 is pronounced Œthree-ten¹... Although Last Light is hardly the smoothest of rides it carries some mighty grooves and swings too much to resist" Mojo, Avant-Garde Album of the Month "an inspired and ambitious debut...majestically eerie and deeply evocative" Wax, 8/10 FAULTLINE - Closer Colder format: CD (BAY 12CD) and limited edition 180g vinyl LP (BAY 12V) mail order price: CD: £10.00 (+p&p) / LP: £8.00 (+p&p) barcodes: CD: UPC 0666017006321 / LP: UPC 0666017006314 http://www.faultline.co.uk "a quite breathtaking, visionary album that promises to take listeners to places they've never been before... one of the finest experimental albums this year" DJ, 9/10 "a truly frightening, visceral, often brilliant record...both beautiful and chilling" Ministry, 4/5 "emotional and sonic disjunction are rarely as eloquently expressed as this" The Times, 8/10 "wonderful" BBM, 8/10 "elegant, innovative and emotionally challenging" Rocksound, 8/10 "an unnerving, edgy listen, but the rewards are manifold" Wax, 8/10 "heart rending beauty" Future Music, 10/10 SUSUMU YOKOTA - Image 1983 - 1998 format: CD only (BAY 9CD) mail order price: £10.00 (+p&p) barcode: UPC 0666017005829 "sexy and funny...Image's micro mood engineering is pure phantasmal pop, a compelling tour of musical dustworlds. It makes you itch to hear whatever ivory dice Yokota rolls out next" Ian Penman, The Wire "this is the sort of music you put on while you're doing the washing up only to find it has taken control of your very soul" Ben Thompson, Mojo "the Japanese dream forger has proved that minimalism in all spheres has a transfixing meeting point. Captivating" Kevin Martin, Top "sublime" The Times "spine-tinglingly beautiful moments" Wax "wonderfully imaginative" Sleazenation "beauty incarnate" 7 OSMOSIS format: low price CD only (BAY 10CD) mail order price: £3.00 (+p&p) barcode: UPC 0666017005928 "A lovely collection...a fantastic label in that it makes real a policy of welcoming the fresh, new and experimental with open arms" Wax, 9/10 "a wicked album" The Mix, 8/10 "Impossible to categorise, impossible to ignore, impossible not to fall in love with. The LeafLabel once again proves it's at the serrated edge of weird and wonderful electronica" i-D "Osmosis puts other compilations in the shade" Muzik, 4/5 "As a document of underground dance music, it doesn't get much better than this" Hot Press, 4/5 "Suitable for all age groups and only £3.99!"
