I only ask because I want to record as many negative votes as possible for Warp in the Best Record Label category... they have no business being there this year (even though I *KNOW* they'll be one of the nominees) because of all the useless pigshit they put out (see: Squarepusher, Ae's EP7, Slum, Warp 10+1 and 10+2, etc...) >> Agreed. Not only does Warp have no quality control, but with their connections they should be putting out re-releases and new releases from virtually every decent artist. If I was lucky enough to run a record label for a living I'd be busting ass for some serious quality control. Oh well. On the topic of who should be the label of the year... Seems the top two are Chain Reaction and Tresor. Small independent labels I like SND and City Centre Offices (I wasn't wild about 3 and 5, but 1 and 2 were excellent and 4 is now an SND 7"! Wow!) Let's not confuse a few weak and misdirected releases with a premature demise. Warp have been stretching out quite a bit the last few years with some bands that may not rate as true "IDM", but both Squarepusher eps have longer staying power in my rotation than almost all other stuff I've bought this year (regardless of label). And lets not forget the whole Peel Sessions series. The BoC one is weak, yes, but the others seem to me to be "quality". At least I have these, whereas the Chain Reaction comp struck me as an overlong series of Porter Ricks wannabes. It's all taste, though. The Slum record, inexcusable, either way ; )

I WOULD like to see this happen, though. All those GPR records ... I'll have sweet dreams tonight.

My premature vote would be Leaf. And while we're/I'm discussing Warp, didn't someone mention them possibly signing Richard Devine a few months ago? Whatever came of that?
