Well its definitely not AFX, but something fishy is up.. on this week's Onion at www.theonion.com, there is a snippet at the very bottom of the front page titled "Turkish Man Kiss You" which makes direct references to the song without mentioning that a song on the subject exists! They even use the same name, Mahir Cagri. Fucking insane. So, is The Onion plaguarizing? Is the song an Onion creation? hmmmmmmmm --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Not only does Warp have no quality control, but with their connections they should be putting out re-releases and new releases from virtually every decent artist. If I was lucky enough to run a record label for a living I'd be busting ass for some serious quality control. Oh well. On the topic of who should be the label of the year... Seems the top two are Chain Reaction and Tresor. Small independent labels I like SND and City Centre Offices (I wasn't wild about 3 and 5, but 1 and 2 were excellent and 4 is now an SND 7"! Wow!) Why? Re-releases have a limited appeal. If they put out re-issues, they'll get the hardcore fan-base buying it but not much else. Its more interesting for Warp to release new music by new artists. Thats not to say its not a good idea but new music/artists has got to take precedence.

Ah - a value judgement. Define 'decent'. Warp don't exist as a charitable service for starving musicians that a bunch of people on IDM define as 'decent'. They release music by artists that Rob and Steve like. If you like 'em too, great. If not then, okay - don't buy it.

Then start your own label and quit moaning about others not working to your parameters. If your beef with Warp is that they don't support 'decent' artists, then why don't you aim to support them yourself? You can sample and sequence the funny noises Fax machines make. Call your label, Fax Records. Oops, that's already taken. He just happens to be a person who has actually started his own label, released several well-regarded records, and put theory into practice, rather than just talking smack on a mailing list. -d.w. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
