Another plug for the folks at Autumn Records. They deserve recognition for releasing some of the most complicated and simplest forms of electronic music. Formed a little over a year now, Greg Davis (aka Asterisk) runs the label, and they're set to release a few more projects in the upcoming months. Check out the Autumn Records website for more information at .. .. .. www.amung.org/~jkdavis/autumn And a few words about previous release's by Asterisk.. Asterisk: Submersion Tank e.p. (aut 002) I find the "Submersion Tank" ep very much on the experimental ambient side of the platter.. while part's three & five have been on repeat mode this past week. I really enjoy the abstract beats connected to the gritty machine noises in the background, very nice job. Hard-to-absorb electronics that soak's you up in the third or fourth listen. Asterisk: 13/8 e.p. (aut 002) The "13/8" e.p. has a more upbeat idm meets total digital fuckery. And within the abundance of odd sound sculptures, there's an ever present melodic hook shaping the sounds into coherent pieces of sound. All in all, these two e.p.'s run through a maze of odd rhythm's, disorienting melodies, simple yet chaotic beats, crunchy background frequencies, and some of simplest forms of electronic/ambient music. Imagine the combo of Solenoid (electronics), To Rococo Rot (ambient), and Autechre (beats) and Asterisk fits snuggly somewhere in between. It's always hard to describe sounds, but if you could listen to a cell-phone talking to a modem in a robot-operated factory, then Asterisk will compliment your cdr collection quite well. ; ) Pietro. ___________________________________________ p i e t r o d a s a c c o a u d i o - n i m b u s 9745 lynngrove cr, windsor, ontario, n8r 1b8, canada http://www.rain.org/~audio/grooves/ grooves experimental electronics music mag --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
