Since it's about 8:00 in London right now, I guess tonight's Warp party is just getting started. Wow, BoC, Autechre, and Squarepusher with Aphex and Calix DJing. This party is some better than the last two. Perhaps that's why they aren't webcasting. Ugh. Lame. But what else could I expect, really? Anybody on this list who attends had better submit a doctoral thesis. Those bastards. I was all psyched to hear tonight's show.. and from what I saw, the Warp10.x Realaudio page for the last two days didn't say anything about not broadcasting tonight. Very disappointing. But I guess with the high sound quality of RealAudio, people could easily download the Autechre/BoC/Aphex show and live out the rest of their lives in the lap of luxury, selling bootlegged copies of it and running Warp out of business. That's almost as bad as people trading obscure, out-of-print Autechre remixes in mp3. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i think what that means is that warp will issue the damn thing on cd at some point. just sit & wait, i guess. ~ david --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

They release reportedly excellent AFX material as a cassette only for employees, they have the rights to BoC's entire back catalog and do nothing with it, they don't release Peel Sessions until a slew of CDR's gets them angry enough to do it, etc. etc. Meanwhile they punish us with atrocious releases like "Maximum Priest" or more from Jimi Tenor, Slum, John Callaghan, et al. Okay, so BoC are playing new tracks. Does that mean a single person on this list isn't going to buy the album? "Well, I've got some of it in Real Audio." AFX is DJing. Maybe he'll play records that are too cool for us. Just another overt example of what Warp thinks of their supporters. Even if they planned to release these shows on disc, which seems unlikely, I still don't think the short-term availability of Real Audio would stop people from picking it up. Frankly, I'm surprised they even sold tickets to these shows. But anyway, who cares, there is so much other good music out there that Autechre and the Boards just don't seem that important. The more music I hear the less I appreciate Autechre, although I still think the Boards do the melodic electronic thing as well as anyone. Hopefully Warp won't snag up anybody else, or it's all totally fucked. So nobody on this list went to the Warp 3 party? Haven't heard anything yet. Or is everyone still laying dormant after the blinding strobe lights? Could the reason that Warp didn't broadcast the last Live night be because there would be no way that their server could handle every afx, ae, boc, etc. fan on the planet listening to it at once. There was a message on the warpnet-news page about how their server was having trouble just from people listening to all the ra snippets of warp10+(1-3). What would you choose: Not broadcast the show -or- broadcast it and have the server choke and 1000+ angry emails about how they couldn't connect to the server... I was at the Thursday and Friday Warp events and sorry to disappoint those of you whose minds are already made up but I had a tremendous time. I was at all three, and I had an amazing time. Except for Broadcast - What the hell was that? Friday was the best though - Squarepusher blew me away!!!! And BoC were great - Is the last track they played a released thing? Now I need to wonder whether or not Aphex is packing in music making to become a professional dancer? -i. I quite liked tham actually, though I don't have any of their stuff.

Smart money says it's a new track. If you noticed Sqpr. said "loss of integrity" just before the climax of his final tune, so I think he's ambivalent about going back to the DAT performances.

That was Kelly dancing, not Aphex, if you mean the bloke during Sqpr's set. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

From what I understand from the cosmic crofter's previous correspondance, BoC do not want current music planned for the new album broadcast, as they are paranoid about being ripped off before the album is released. In otherwords, its a blanket ban on broadcast until their new album comes out. Which is fair enough if you are a paranoid Scot. ----- Original Message ----- From: <AeOtaku@aol.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Saturday, November 06, 1999 8:16 PM Subject: Re: (idm) Warp 10.3 Party
