Ok gang, Im after some Sony MDR-CD1700 headphones since they seem to have a reasonably flat response and the 50mm drivers arent scared of occasional bass terrorism (without going muddy). The marketing boasts 5-30,000 hz range (yeah right) but all I care about is that they handle the broad genre of IDM with accuracy . Can anyone recommend a place online/mail order to get these cheaply (less than J&Rs $225) or perhaps alternatives that: * have big drivers, 50mm - or MORE! * low impedence - yeah, I love Sennheiser but I want these to work w/a discman too! * low, low, low bass, accurate mids and not too bright TIA, ernie, my 50th post today :( Ernesto Ikerd, (817) 763-4795 Company Graphics, Dept 17, MZ-1156 Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems Fort Worth, Texas --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

$225 is a lot. www.pssl.com can usually beat any price. I like the Grados myself -- the SR60s are only about $70 and work fine off a walkman. The Grados are also much sturdier than the Sonys. The SR80s are about $100 and are flatter than the SR60s, but take a little more current. kent williams -- kent@avalon.net On Thu, 4 Nov 1999, Ernesto Ikerd wrote:
