Many rumours have been circulating about the fall of Opcode, the creator of the OMS Midi standard, and of the first integrated Midi & Digital Audio music sequencing software application for the Macintosh, Studio Vision Pro, and lately Vision DSP. Reports have shown that the number of registered users of Vision exceeds 40,000, including many music & audio industry professionals working in top recording studios, with some of the biggest names in the business. The rumours center around a dispute between Gibson (the guitar company who bought Opcode in 1998) & Opcode. A reality undisputed is the elimination of techincal support of the software by Opcode, and the firing of most of the Opcode staff. The real story can be found here: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Monitor/6454/ You might want to post this to the public. It might help keep Opcode alive. __________________________ kim.cascone sound.designer...composer kim@anechoicmedia.com http://www.anechoicmedia.com mp3 release: "Pulsar Studies 1 - 20" (Falsch) CD: "cathodeFlower" (Ritornell/Mille Plateaux) "the smooth always posseses a greater power of deterritorialization than the striated." - Deleuze & Guattari --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
