I'm following a subtle shift in my musical focus, and am looking for extremely ultra-minimal techno, very repetitive but submerged or restrained 4x4 (boom tss boom tss boom tss boom tss) and variations thereof. I'm referring to stuff like Plastikman's "Consumed," Gas (Koningsforst), Stewart Walker (Stabiles, Nevermore, etc.), some of the Basic Channel--Chain Reaction stuff. Steve Stoll (Blunted Boy Wonder era), although certainly nice and repetitive, is probably a bit too active and "above ground" for what I'm looking for. Any recommendations? Also: 1) Today I picked up a few by Thomas Brinkmann: Ernst #4: Gisela/Heidi, #7: Monika/Nicole, #8: Petra/Olga. Couldn't find the name of the label among the scratched words on the runouts -- is Strom the name of the label? (http://listen.to/strom). I checked the IDM archive and Andrew Duke's archive to no avail. Help? 2) One by Freiland (#5). Label? Is this Brinkmann as well? 3) Any recommendations on Porter Ricks? A website? Is "Biokinetics" available on vinyl? How about the recent one from Mille Plateaux? 4) I have Sturm's "Die Glocken Von Sturm" on Mille Plateaux. Anything else by this artist? "Consumed" is such a deeply felt, emotional work for me, and it has become this reoccuring motif in my life (I play it here at work on CD and spin it on vinyl in my DJ sets). Looking back on the music I'm drawn to, I see that most of it carries a trace of sadness, melancholia, inwardness. A quiet reflectiveness. The flip side, I guess, of the loud, crunchy, clicky-clacky, bleepy-bloppy, electro-y branch of IDM (a family tree???). Any thoughts on this? Ernst is one of Thomas Brinkmann's labels and Gisela/Heidi, Monika/Nicole, Petra/Olga are all releases on Ernst. Strom is also a label but it is run by a guy named Max Kahlen, a friend of Thomas Brinkmann's. The Max Kahlen Uwerk 12" on Strom is superb! The above website is for both the Ernst/ Max and Strom labels.

Freiland is one of the many many many guises & labels of Wolfgang Voigt (aka Mike Ink). A few better known projects/ labels for Wolfgang Voigt include Profan, Studio 1, and Kreisel.

My favorite Porter Ricks release is their Biokinetiks cd on Chain Reaction. The Biokinetiks album is not available on vinyl but many of the tracks off that album were previously released as 3 separate 12"s on Chain Reaction. . Porter Ricks: Port Of Transition 12" (Chain Reaction 03) . Porter Ricks: Port Of Nuba 12" (Chain Reaction 09) . Porter Ricks: Nautical Dub 12" (Chain Reaction 14) In my opinion all subsequent Porter Ricks material pales in comparison to these early tracks.

Sturm is another project by Wolfgang Voigt. Sturm also released a self-titled cd/2xLP on Mille Plateaux earlier this year. If you enjoy the Sturm material I suggest you try another series of releases by Wolfgang Voigt recording under the name "Gas." There are currently four albums by Gas called Gas, Zauberberg, Oktember, and Konigforst all on the Mille Plateaux label plus a 12" on the Profan label. The Gas style is a deep dubby muted atmospheric deep techno sound very much like the Sturm sound. -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sturm is actually Reinhard Voigt (Pentax/Kron/Forever Sweet/Sweet Reinhard), Wolfgang Voigt's brother. Check out this site http://www.bio.cam.ac.uk/~mjr/brother.html for some info on the Cologne scene.
