Innerzone Orchestra: Programmed Astralwerks ASW 6277-2 Carl Craig is a mature artist who drinks human blood and watches lots of 80s-era science fiction films while playing bebop records over his hi-fi. At least that's what I got from the liner notes. What do you make of a record like this? It really sounds like a straight-up jazz album at times, but in the corner here we have this drum machine and a rapper and all these obese synth pads pitchbending up and down the walls and across the ceiling. What the fuck, people. Something has to be done about this crazy fool Craig. Doesn't he know that 21st century electronic music has to be composed with a single, overriding stylistic mindset? How can he just break down all these barriers? I say that all us IDM kids bring an international class action suit against this motherfucker for putting diverse genres on a single album and not letting us know exactly what to expect when we pick up his records. Like Squarepusher making downtempo fusion shit- this sort of fan abuse has to be stopped. Sure, it might be a great record, but what kind of record is it? Are those pianos? Far be it from me to give any more publicity to this sort of boundary-smashing insensitivity. This review stops right here.
