rodney: check out archived editions of Andrew Duke's In The Mix on Cognition (http://www.globalserve.net/~cognition); every show has a complete tracklisting included in text form (and on the show itself), so it should be no problem to find what you're looking for. I've played the following on the show recently: darn cold way o' lovin' (the first single), the remix of this single, two other tracks from the album, and the neil landstrumm remix of the second single. hope this helps. ps there's also a text feature on super collider in the same place and they will be appearing on future editions of the radio/net show. andrew duke :) Rodney Perkins wrote:

Diddo... Medicine label licensed this one and are bringing it into the US as a double CD with mixes including one by Si Begg. Also, the first CD includes mp3's and some multimedia component... haven't checked this out yet since I only got it on Saturday night.... Never thought Cristian Vogel could be so funky. There was a 12" out on Loaded about 4 months ago that was pretty stunning. Derrick Carter did a stripped-down remix of one of the tracks right before I went to Chicago, mid-august maybe. I think that this group will probably blow up as a hip crossover between r&b/funk and glitchy house. I think it is great, just the 12", I'd love to find the album... I think Christian Vogel has always had this potential, he was just making straighter techno before... Vogel's path seems similar to Luke Slater, who made hard HARD pounding techno with slight melody (for Peacefrog, GPR, etc for years) and is now getting more funk rhythms in his stuff. I have that last Vogel LP on Tresor and really recommend it for fans of Surgeon and maybe Stewart Walker. If you want crunchy (but stripped down) grooves with glitchy timbres and Prince-like drama over Bootsy's bass (underwater) ...check out the SuperCollider 12" on Loaded REcords. Reminded me of Funkadelic a bit, too. Solenoid On Mon, 18 Oct 1999, mtheuletant wrote:

Well, I have a general policy of not mentioning things if I don't like them. ;) Oh ho ho.. It's a pity, because it really _ought_ to love this album. I really like this whole IDM lark, and I really like soul and funk from back in the day... Still, I don't think this album was just a let down from high expectations, cos I wasn't expecting anything great from Christian Vogel (I really don't like his sound). Anyway, my overall impression was that Chris's I-spent-a-year-getting-every-sound-just-so production style and Jamie's slavishly faithful funk vocals didn't gel at all. Again, I'll stress I'm not anti any attempts at such a fusion on principle, but I don't think it worked here. Goodbye energy, and without energy, the vocal made little sense. I was unsurprised to get right into them live, though. Over a PA all that hit me was the groove, and all up the whole thing is a lot more raw and out of control sounding. How would you compare the 12" to the album then? I found the 12" pretty lively and energetic, and fused pretty well between the sounds and vocals; I'm starting to wonder if that 12" is just the best of the album or...? It is possible that they seem fused because there are two remixes along with the songs that abstract the vocals into glitchy-weirdness moreso than I imagine the album might... Do you think that the vocals on Model 500's new "mind and body" LP mix well with the electronics? What's your take on that stuff? (how about Aux88 for that matter) Oldnoise

Oh yeah, and people weren't allowed to praise this release anyway, because it's on Loaded, run by the same people as Skint, and Skint is (was?) the home of Fatboy Slim, and, well, gosh, is he intelligent dance music??? I also heard that, like, a cat's got four legs, and so do dogs, so all cats are dogs! Sheesh, watch yourselves out there, this world's pretty crazy! I haven't heard any of the singles, so I'm not sure, sorry. If it is the first single ('Take Me Home'?) then I recall in one of the interviews on Cognition they talked about how the rest of the album was more wiggy than that. They also implied that Loaded's choice of remixers would not have been theirs.. I think Chris just said straight out that he didn't like the remixes at that point.. I guess that's why people like Si Begg were brought in on the most recent one (last I looked). Still, having said that, if 'Take Me Home' is the tune I remember it being it didn't strike me as out of place with the others... so I'd say check the album out if the single's got you curious.

I've actually never heard Aux88 (I understand this is worth rectifying) but I think the vocals do mix well on that Model 500 LP. I don't _particularly_ like it, but that the vocals didn't fit wouldn't be my complaint. Yeah, I wouldn't hesitate in calling this album groundbreaking. One of my favorite electronic albums of all time. It's got some of the most advanced (and musical), non-abstract DSP I've heard in "pop" music. I think people who enjoyed Aphex's "Window Licker" EP (especially the first 2 tracks) might really get into Super_Collider.

Drill'n'bass ? There's one track with a processed Amen, but the tracks are all pretty mid-tempo. And as far as ae moments, some of the sounds may have a similar quality, but SC's overall melodic/harmonic sensibility is very different. No drifting melancholia and machine like rhythms here. Andrei

okay, after reading about this release i was lucky enough to come across it in the used bin at my local music shop. this is by far one of the most interesting releases i've picked up in quite some time. (the only thing i can really compare it to is Leila...) even if you're not a big 'funk' fan, the music itself is pretty damn awesome. some mp3 tracks included along with a ROM track (mac only) with some pics and stuff. kinda wish more 'idm' groups would consider adding some vocals every once and awhile. anyway, super_collider manages to pull off a unique blend of white guy german funk (yes, it's possible...) based on heavily processed electronics. seems to be fairly easy to obtain since it's on a domestic label, so there's absolutely no excuse for not owning it. oh yeah, apparently there's no relation between the name of the group and the software program... okay, i'm gonna go prepare myself for a fun filled night of paper writing on DSP. college forever and ever and ever... jeff klein, if you're reading this, please email me. cheers, christian -- " there is no spoon.
