Hello, friends! This is kumquat. Ummm...felt I should share my thoughts at this point. scot gelinas writes (in reference to Thad's indiscretions): << hey you are way out of line on this one. besides the fact that you post your trade list pretty much every week or so, show some fuckin respect to Kumquat who gave his own CD away free to anyone who wanted one. no class...>> Scot and Irene, I truly appreciate that you are watching out for me. Aside from that, I have no quarrel with Thad's original attempt to sell Kumquat. There is a reasonable level of turnover among IDM list members, and Thad may not have known that this free promo disc was offered to the list. There is no "not for retail sale, promo use only" stamp on it, after all. How about it, Thad, did you know about this offer? I know I didn't send a cd to you directly, since you are not in my database. ( That's right: I've got the names and addresses of many of you. So you'd best behave.) Aren't those promo stamps a joke anyway? I can't even count the times I've purchased "promo use only" records in the so-called "cut-out bins" in "legitimate" record stores. Thad writes: << as far as I know, Kumquat is not offering free promos of this CD to folks any longer. Actually, I think it has been months now since he was doing so...>> This is not true. Free promo cd's are still available, but going fast. Check out: http://www.thelocus.com/kumquat Kindly expore the site a bit and listen to the mp3's (also free) before e-mailing me for a free postage-paid cd, since the music may or may not be your cuppa tea. As I said last time around, it sounds nothing like autechre. But some soundboys dig it. Check the musical references points on the site. << is kumquat making a royalty off of your sale? >> This is a rhetorical question, right? the good zimbette writes: << (i like the kumquat cd, or most of it, quite a bit. it is silly as hell, fun as a duck and fits in quite nicely with land of the loops, sukpatch, le tone and other childish junk.) >> Thanks, chris...I'm proud to be fun as a duck, and I'm going to consider "childish junk" to be a compliment, since I see kumquat in your radio playlists now and then. dear mr thug writes (and we should all of course buy his album): << being a struggling artist myself just wondering why anyone would put a monetary figure on something such as the Kumquat cd ? I mean Mr.Kumquat has obviously put in a whole lot of effort into this release (with a proper cd pressing and proper inlays and postal pack) and then has been nice enough to send them out absolutely free of charge ... >> Zenon M. Feszczak writes: << Perhaps artists should include a note expressing their wishes with such freebies. For example, when Bionaut sent out free promos, he stipulated that the recipient, should she/he not like the record, _give_ it to someone else.
quoted 1 line>>
I support this idea. If you have a kumquat that you think someone else would like better than you, give it, sell it, barter it, rent it, as long as it gets some listening. Konstantin Minko writes: << I think you folks who say that they live in a free country should agree with it. >> Currently, Kumquat is free music for free people. Until we start charging. - Fred Church bigkumquat@aol.com http://www.thelocus.com/kumquat

nope i sure didnt know of the free offer. i simply got it in an unrelated trade from another list member, had my day with it, and decided to try and reasonably sell or trade it in the same fashion which i procured it. thank you for coming out and clearing the air with your own perspective and information. but i will say once again that i feel this whole "ordeal" could have been much more constructive and less noisey if the matter of the cd being still available free had simply been originally brought to my attention via private email. umph. in the process of deflating my reactions- -Thad
