I'm sure many of you now have these disc's.. Besides the Plaid remix of Ae's "Vletrmx", Isan's remix of Seefeel's "When Face Was Face" is unbelievable. I'm not familiar with the original track, or any of Isan's work, but this remix is probably one of the smoothest, and most mellow idm tracks i've heard in quite a while. Dark, slow, and pouncing at the same time, and a lovely melodic hook rounding the edges off. Can anyone recommend other Isan material in this vein? I've heard some of Seefeel's work, but never bothered to pick it up. I recall some simple techno tunes from way back that Seefeel did. Anyway, if you have some recommend's for me about Isan, shoot them over. Please and thanks.. Isan is excellent stuff. I have a bunch of releases from them and they are all excellent but my favorites is their Beautronics cd on the Tugboat label. Here are the Isan release i can remember offhand... . Isan: damil 85/cubillo 7" (Wurlitzer Jukebox) . Isan: titled not tithed 7" (Bad Jazz) . Isan/tin Foil Star split 10" (Atomic) . Isan: betty's lament 7" (Bad Jazz) . Isan: beautronics cd (Tugboat) . Isan: parochi 7" (Static Caravan) . Isan: digitalis LP (Liquefaction Empire) Plus a host of compilation appearance on a variety of labels including Darla, Liquefaction Empire, Hummy & Joey, Fragments, Foundry, Elefant, Warp & Earworm. Come to think of it, my second favorite Isan release is a cool Piano Magic/Isan/Horton Jupiter/Wisdon of Harry remix 12" on Liquefaction Empire. The fun thing about this 12" is that all four artists each have a track on this comp but each track is remixed by one of the other artists. it's like a remix orgy! on this one isan's damil 85 is remixed by piano magic and then isan remixes horton jupiter's ylo! track. Interesting you mention this : I've never heard of him/them before this w/end : borrowed the Matador 10th anniversary triple disc (of which VERY little grabbed my fancy) but one track that's really nice is by Wisdom of Harry. Who are they? I *

You should check out some of Seefeel's stuff again. Each album has a slightly different style to it. My favourite is probably "Quique" (Too Pure), which is probably the best showcase of the entire group's talents (thereafter, Clifford seemed to take centre stage more). Everything sounds nice and organic, with a slightly unpolished feel to it that works well. "Succour" (Warp) is also another favourite, although this time the style is more stripped down, at times sounding like an IDM-ish hybrid of Cocteaus and Dead Can Dance with a sprinkling of Autechre for good measure. "Ch-Vox" (Rephlex) is quite refreshing -- Seefeel at their most ambient and minimalist, almost to a SAW2 extent. I didn't take to it at first, but over the years it's kind of grown on me. -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/

I know nothing of Isan, but I'd just like to say that this is quite a value for 14 American dollars. 2 discs, though the first has some tracks that I don't dig. I pretty much start the CD at track 3 and continue from there, which incidentally is the Isan track. I agree, fantastic work. My other favorite is track 12 due to the mind-widening programming and rebounding sounds. Are either of the other two new Warp products worth picking up? 10-1 and 10-2 I guess? One was a classic Warp comp, the other influences on warp I think? -The Objector

Isan has a webpage: http://www.mugwood.freeserve.co.uk/isan And the discography is there. I thought the CD was absolutely incredible, I bought about $300 worth of stuff that day at Other Music and the Isan was all I really played once I heard it. They have a new full-length on the way, which is promising. All their non-CD material tends to be hit and miss, all have awesome tracks and forgettable ones. While we're on this topic, check out http://www.riverrun.demon.co.uk There's a site there that does an excellent job of covering indie/electronic type stuff which is where Isan came from. Nobody on this list or in IDM really seemed to know about them for a while, they kinda languished in indie circles. Matt
