the label in question is actually called childisc. i'm pretty sure lollop is somebody else's label...i've never seen any childisc releases in the states, though i did see a huge ad in a japanese electronic music magazine. they have about a half-dozen releases out. sc

Are you sure about that? All the info i've ever gotten about Takemura mentions his own Lollop label. FROM FORCED EXPOSURE CATALOG: . LOLLOP SAMPLER CD (LRCD001) "Japanese underground/experimental dance label started by DJ Takemura in 1993 (known for his Audio Sports associations, as well at the Child's View album). Mostly a 12" label to date, they have now released these 2 CDs. This sampler features exclusive tracks from 8 Japanese artists associated with Lollop: Reflection ("the most watched band from Lollop. The sound was created by programming and guitar. Strange but danceable and melodious sound has mysterious charm"); DJ Dan & Ho ("Hiroshi Okamoto's sampling tracks"); Tuttle & Dynamo Labo ("techno rock unit from Osaka"), Child's View ("new unit by DJ Takemura"); Modern Conception; Filter Works ("hip hop breakbeat tracks"); Liberal Music ("new ambient approach"); Voice Of The Instrument (DJ Toshi's unit). " FROM A REVIEW IN MUZIK MAGAZINE: Reflection "Transparent" Anyone familiar with Japan's ever healthy jazz and hip hop scene, represented by labels such as Idyllic, Bellisima!, and Lollop, will also know the music of producers like Nobukazu Takemura, The Silent Poets and DJ Krush. The debut album from Reflection has already established the artist's reputation as one of Japan's finest exponents of this form of music, and has been received with high acclaim amongst their peers both in Japan and Europe. Reflection are two brothers Ichiro Taniguchi (programming) and Kenji Taniguchi (guitars & programming) who, alongside bass player Kozo Ueda, have had a string of releases on Takemura's Lollop label and two remixes on his "Child's View" album on Idyllic alongside Aphex Twin, Coldcut and the Mad Professor. "This is sci-fi jazz for the millenium!" (Muzik) FROM A CLEAR LABEL WEBSITE: Reflection:: Ichiro och Kenji Taniguchi, two brothers living in Tokyo, have been on the top of the japanese jazz-hop pyramid since it was built. Their debut "The Errornormous World" have established their reputation as one of the most brilliant music producers in the genre. The EP releases on Nobukazu Takemura's Lollop label gave rise to this, and then Clear brought the debut album to Europe. Watch out for these ones, jazzy junk and brassy funk for the future! Or does DJ Takemura have more than one label? -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Any comments on any of the Childisc or Lollop releases? I have yet to hear any myself. Are any of them like Takemura's more recent output on Thrill Jockey or Bubblecore or are they more like the older trip-hop, acid- jazz sound of Takemura's earlier releases? I think some of the reviews i read mentioned the latter style but i would be interested to hear what others thought. I know that the former Clear label band Reflection started out on Lollop. If the other Lollop releases are as good as the Reflection stuff on Clear then Lollop releases would definitely be worth seeking out. btw: i dont have a legitimate database (though i wish i did). just my email program, my own music collection, and the www. -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states
