Heard this at the weekend. Pretty tasy, very _Big Loada_ in style but a bit more abstract in places. Lots of acid burbles and breakbeat fuckery. I dig it cos _Big Loada_ is on of my fave Tom records. The Ko-Wreck is getting a release on Chocolate in the US and Warp are releasing it elsewhere. Its kind of stunted hip-hop with some (obviously) great scratching by Craze (Kraze?). Very good but highlight for me is the Plaid remix which they've been playing in all their recent live sets and its a corker of a track. Listened to a bit of the new Broadcast LP, not enough to do it justice really - still in that 60's retro pop fashion but the tracks sound way more polished and accessable than before. Could be big. Theres a new Two Lone Swordsman LP been cut but I didn't listen to that. Oops. All forthcoming on Warp. || [CiM] || cim_@flashmail.com || - ______________________________________________________ Get Your FREE FlashMail Address now at http://www.flashmail.com It's Free, Easy, & Fun !!!

Big Loada also has (in my estimation) his best track: A Journey to Needham (7 AM Mix). Or was it Reedham? I forget. Has Push Button Objects done anything to warrant excitement, ever? All the PBO 12"s are seriously lackluster, that one on Skam is downright bad. If you want to hear good hip-hop, check out Kool Keith or Mantronix. If you want to hear skratching get one of ISP's many, many CD's. Q-Bert and MMM are better than anybody else at it. Anybody checked the Warp box sets vinyl? Is the vinyl out? The "Influences" looks pretty strong. B.

hopefully someone interested in good hip hop would have more than three sources, since the only interesting thing mantronix has done in over ten years is to let omar santana remix "bass machine." i can see where PBO might not have list appeal, though. he substitutes street breaks for sad-boy industrial in the crunch and twinkle equation and no doubt leaves a lot of people behind. eric onnow: keith tenniswood mix at haywire

because chances are that it'll be very good.

yes. his first 12" on schematic was amazing, as well as his recent remixes for takeshi and gunieo.

two of them are. one is so-so. and one, IMHO, is the best IDM record in several years. (no kidding) and one of the only ones with fat beats/head nod factor. when autechre does hip hop it's usually flimsy (see 'mag'). pbo is bassy, ph/fat, slammin'.

agreed, but why limit your spectrum to just those artists?

I take it you've never heard DJ Craze...

Damn straight. I saw a video with his winning entry in the 1998 DMC finals, and OH MY.... the man has talent. Aaron
