First of all, the constant barrage of complaints concerning lack of innovation
on the part of this or that artist has gotten tiresome for the Nth time with
me, and I'm sure a few others. Has anybody on this list invented any new forms
of music lately? No. So hush already.
Second, if people can talk for days on end about supposedly relevant post-rock
bands that wouldn't know a funky beat if it gave them VD, then the rest of us
can chat about ZZ Top. At least it's danceable, for Pete's sake.
Third, Bowie may cop style from others, and Earthling may have been poo to a
lot of ears out there, but he still makes an average of two or three keepers
an album which is more than a great deal of our favorite artists do. If
copping style from others is such a sin, then you've got a lot of work ahead
of you- one hundred years of The Blues is lying out there waiting to be
denounced as uninnovative copycat trash.
Fourth and lastly, to whoever dissed the Rolling Stones- well, you can't
always get what you want.
