Is there any substantiated truth in the rumour that the album "Rushes" attributed obscurely to 'the Fireman' is actually Paul McCartney in pseudonym form? I've been very reluctant to touch it, but was lent it last night - it's pretty effective early morning wake-up ambience, completely and utterly un-Macca like (which might confirm the reasoning on an undercover release, in order not to alienate his fan base). I'm quite positive there is, but I'm not sure where to find it -- probably in a record review done by Q or Select or Vox or one of the other British magazines. He may even have admitted it his own self too, that the Fireman is indeed a project between him and Youth. Read all about it at http://allmusic.com/.

You've got to give the guy his respect, he's done just about everything he's wanted to without worrying about his image or sales (though I s'pose he doesn't really *need* to be concerned about rubbing two dimes together). The home recordings from the '70s, arena rock with Wings later in the decade, some pretty cool synth-pop early in the '80s, all his classical projects, the Fireman, now this back-to-my-roots album (god-awful as it is), sure beats most anyone else's attempts at "stretching out", especially that absurd pseudo-ambient album Eric Clapton recorded as TDF a year or so ago... .John.

I read an article about pop artists using pseudonyms last weekend in the Sun-Sentinal (Miami-Ft. Lauderdale). It was in response to the Chris Gaines album(Garth Brooks). Paul McCartney is "The Fireman" I checked out some real audio at cdnow or amazon, so can you! One other of note was Elvis Costello as "The Imposter", a protest singer.
