When purchasing Plone 'For Beginner Piano' I was expecting something a little more like BoC or Global Goon in spirit. Instead it seems to have the elan of 'Mike & Rich' but without the burp jokes. Standout track for me is "Plock" with its vocoder, marimba loops, and lazily slurry percussion. I guess what seems to give the retro sound they use a sense of the ironic is the overdone modulation and portamento on the synth leads - or are they using a Theremin? Global Goon does this style but it's more playful and sometimes wistful. All in all an OK release but it doesn't do that much for me. Someone brought up the subject of IDM pop a little bit ago. Anyone heard the new Creatures album? I seem to recall that it was released on an IDM-friendly label so it led me to believe that the release might be worthwhile. Along those lines I am looking for suggestions on Human League releases - any pointers? Thanks Geordan

the first two albums, _reproduction_ and _travelogue_, are most idm-friendly. kinda have a kraftwerk v cabaret voltaire v _low_-era bowie thing going on, synth-wise. obviously inspired add n to x. unmistakeably phil oakey on vox, but at least he was writing good, odd lyrics then. highly recommended. * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com ##:# calm down my heart/don't beat so fast/don't be afraid icq:5562209 just once in a lifetime
