peak is the mac/beos equal (perhaps better) to soundforge. as for music resources, www.harmony-centrel.com does a good job keeping tabs on the industry as a whole and proved lots of links and user feedback info. On Wed, 29 Sep 1999, c s wrote:

For audio, high end is Pro Tools (www.digidesign.com) If you're looking for a MIDI/Audio sequencer, try any of: Digital Performer (www.motu.com) Studio Vision (www.opcode.com) Logic (www.emagic.de) Cugase (www.steinberg.de) For dedicated audio editor: Peak (www.bias-inc.com) Spark (http://www.tcworks.de) You should also look into softsynths, like Rebirth, Reaktor, Generator, Transformator, Unity, etc. There is much more, of course, but these are a good starting point. 3

Maybe someone told you ... maybe not ... but here are some really cool peices of software ... some are made by pro companies ... others are shareware peak - http://www.bias.com (pro fx and editing very cool, pretty expensive) soundhack - http://shoko.calarts.edu/~tre (nifty shareware for some freaky output, $40 shareware + list support) b 1 2 5 7 + 1 2 - http://www.m9ndfukc.org/korporat/kode_macintosh.html (*ultra* cool sample manipulation, can be used to record or do it live, $100 written in MAX) c s may have written: -> -> can anyone suggest audio production software for the macintosh platform? -> -> i'm thinking something along the lines of soundforge for windows. -> -> is there any accepted software that idm type music can be produced on the -> macintosh with? any suggestions as to websites to checkout (manufacturers, -> general info sites, etc.? -> -> feel free to email me privately, thanks in advance... -> -> -> craig. -> cstansifer@hotmail.com

I want to also reccommend, as someone else did, to take a look at Native Instruments' Reaktor series. Transformator does granular-based sampling in addition to "traditional" sampling and Generator is an analog modelling synth that also covers FM, and additive synthesis. Reaktor is the combination of the two. Not to mention, both allow you to process internal and external audio in almost any way imaginable and all the DSP is 32 bit for both effects and synth/samplers. Internal sample rate goes up to 132k. ASIO 2 and VST 2 support is due Nov. 1st but it's not "set in stone" --- I use Reaktor everyday and I find it inspiring and also a powerful utility that can "replace" to some extent, much more expensive and less intuitive hardware... Besides, Reaktor is modular, in the sense that you can "build" your own unique synths, samplers and effect... phew, I should have just provided the link first so I wouldn't have gone off like that: http://www.native-instruments.com matt
