Man, that's like asking someone why he likes the taste of orange juice or something. What music one likes is all a matter of taste. It's completely subjective. As for BoC, I just like them...don't know exactly why. And I guess they're "so great" because a lot of other people like them. That's not what makes me enjoy them, mind you, but that's why they're talked about so often. We really should discuss something more informative than what qualities of Boards of Canada make them popular. Jeff

no im not. if i was, i wouldnt have been so careful with the way i worded my post. how do you know you like something if you cant tell me what it is exactly that you like about it? do you like the beats or the structure? do you like it when youre high? does it make you think of a particular time in you life that you enjoyed? please explain. as a listener i find their music enjoyable but i think there is other music that is more deserving of attention then BoC. as i said in my post i wanted to know what it is that people enjoy about BoC... perhaps i am approaching it in the wrong way...

it's perfectly human to like something and have no idea why. i love beamish irish stout, don't ask me why, cuz i can't tell you.

are you a computer in disguise? no offence, but i think you need more experience with people, perhaps not just through computer screens. * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com ##:# it's only in uncertainty/that we're naked and alive icq:5562209

Ok, maybe not, but it seemed like you were just askin' for trouble, that's all.

Of course there are concrete things I like about their music. I like the melancholy-type melodies...the interesting but very digestable beats...the childhood references...the atmospheric qualities...their uniqueness (?!, sorry it's late!)...and as others have said, it reminds me of something. I've seen people mention that it reminds them of being a kid. I'm not sure what it is for me, but I felt it after listening to their album a few times...a sense of hearing something I've heard before (and no, not because it was 2nd or 3rd time I was hearing the LP!), like from a long time ago. Anyway, the point of my reply was to say your question is a waste of time. Maybe I misunderstood you. I didn't think you were actually interested in hearing what BoC fans really like about them; I took it more as a complaint or something...I dunno. On the otherhand I just think there are more useful things to talk about.

Definately not those! I think those are pretty stupid things to talk about, especially when one thread is only a result of a misunderstanding...although the sex thing is kind of on the same level as the question you're asking, if you think about it. I guess I get annoyed when listmembers get picky about shit and start disecting everything. It really ruins it for me. For example, I don't need to read 10 x over what everyone dislikes or likes about an artist (ie all the Funkstorung bashing that crops up time and again). Sometimes I just wanna say: OK!! YOU FUCKING DON'T LIKE THEM!! WE KNOW ALREADY!! You know? It's just unnecessary. As if it's OUTRAGE that Funkstorung sounds like Autechre! At least they don't sound like the Prodigy or Fat Boy Slim. If they ARE immitating Autechre (which I don't believe), at least it's quality source material... --> DISENGAGE TANGENT --> END RANT --> RUN "SUMMARY" I guess if the original post from the person who was willing to -->PAY<-- (emphasis for those gun-jumpers who attacked b/c they thought they were being sold at ridiculous prices) all that money for the early BoC stuff prompted you to ask yourself "why does he/she like them so damn much?", you should have asked him/her offlist. Jeff PS: BoC while high is a religious experience...j/k (but it's cool as shit)
